MYRTLE BEACH, SC.- Think dinner theater, only smaller. It’s ‘Dessert Theatre,’ a tasty mix of art, sweet treats and live theater, offered for a second year on three weekends in January and February at the Franklin G. Burroughs/Simeon P. Chapin Art Museum.

The event includes a dessert buffet on the Museum’s Tea Porch followed by a performance of “A Jersey Country Girl,” a hilarious musical comedy by award-winning local playwright Kathryn Martin. The show will be performed Jan. 20-21, Feb. 3-4 and Feb. 17-18, with seatings at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.. each day.
“Jersey Country Girl” is the story of a would-be country singer whose New Jersey roots keep getting in the way of her dream. Singer/actress Tishala Martinal stars, along with singer/guitarist Ty Potter.

The event is one of several celebrating the Art Museum’s tenth anniversary. Concurrent with the Dessert Theater production are two exhibits: “Then and Now: Selected Artists from the Permanent Collection, opening Jan. 14; and the musical-themed exhibit, “The Fabric of Jazz: A Tribute to the Genius of American Music, Lauren Camp, Fabric Artist,” which opens Jan. 26. Theatergoers are invited to peruse the exhibits either before or after the performance.
Tickets are $20, which includes the dessert buffet. (Sugar-free treats are available for those with dietary concerns.) Seating is extremely limited and advance reservations are required. Call 843-238-2510.
