Work from Nativity House.

TACOMA, WA.- ArtRod announces the opening of Nativity House, a new exhibition featuring artwork created in The Art Room at the Tacoma homeless shelter. Pieces from the show are available for sale and the proceeds will directly benefit the artists. This exhibition is on view at Critical Line through January. The Art Room at Nativity House focuses on art as a therapeutic form of expression.
We often find that the work created here is helpful for some who have a difficult time verbalizing the pain and loneliness they have experienced, said Selinda Sheridan, art coordinator at Nativity House. With their art as a springboard to common expression, many of our guests are able to find a way towards a new path in life.
Though artwork is regularly on view in The Art Room at Nativity House, this is the first public exhibition.
This was a natural progression as it relates to our viewer-driven public art projects, said Michael Lent, curator at ArtRod. As November is highlighted as Artists Month in Tacoma, it is important for us to show the work of artists who might not otherwise have the opportunity to exhibit work, solely based on economic disadvantage.
