AUCKLAND.- Kids will love Auckland Art Gallery's spectacular new participatory show featuring art that wobbles, boings, blinks, baas and barks. Summer Daze creates a sense of wonder at our place in the universe, offering up everyday ideas as recreational outings.

- a souped-up shiny red tractor faces off against a life-sized bull made of corned beef cans.
- a room full of 5,000 polystyrene balls shiver in the blast from electric fans.
- a farmer whistles to his champion dogs as they herd sheep across four large projection screens
- a group of elf-like creatures jump in a river to cool off

A saturation of colour, texture and sensory experiences provides food for the brain. Family-friendly wall labels provide discussion ideas, giving parents and children the freedom to follow their imaginations and discover their own meanings. Kids can make their own badges inspired by the work of Peter Roche, the artist planning a 20m neon and steel Twister for Auckland's Viaduct Harbour. Children can also make creepy-crawly insects at an activity table. Their creations, inspired by Richard Killeen's Flyers, will be displayed on the gallery wall. There are story-time sessions, a chill-out zone with books and puzzles and each child takes home a Summer Daze balloon. Take a break at Auckland Art Gallery this summer and enjoy this playful and entertaining show which communicates across generations.
