NEW YORK, NY.- Christie's is presenting the public debut of Living Memory: Messi A Goal in Life, an immersive art installation by Refik Anadol, opening as a free public exhibition on Saturday, July 12, 2025 through Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Christie's Rockefeller Center (20 Rockefeller Plaza). Please note: admission to the exhibition is free with a ticket, which can be picked up at Christie's entrance while supplies last.
The never-before-seen exhibition invites viewers to step inside the mind of global icon Leo Messi and channel the memory of his favorite goal of his decades-long career the world-famous header that sealed the 2009 UEFA Champions League Final. The unveiling of this transformational digital artwork comes to Christie's New York as the world begins the one-year countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States.
The artwork is being sold in an online auction at christies.com, open for bidding Tuesday, July 8, 2025 through Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Proceeds from the sale will benefit multiple nonprofits, including Inter Miami CF Foundation's global partnership with UNICEF, which supports access to quality education programs in five countries across Latin America and the Caribbean.
The work itself uses data-driven artificial intelligence to create a fully immersive experiencephysically mapping seventeen points of Messi's body to reconstruct his form and kinetic expression, then layering in biometric data including voice, breath, and heartbeat to create a soundscape. The result is an eight-minute-long memory temple that forges a visceral connection between the viewer and Messi, a collective recollection of his memory of the historic header.
Living Memory: Messi A Goal in Life is a collaborative project made possible through the joint efforts of Leo Messi, Refik Anadol, the Inter Miami Foundation, and Ximena Caminos, Cultural Placemaker and project curator.
