Sofia Art Fair kicks off with international flair: Frida Kahlo's kin and digital art maestro Agoria headlining
Sofia Art Fair 2025 is not just showcasing art; it's creating a cultural platform where Bulgarian and international artists can meet new audiences, exchange ideas, develop the market, and foster cultural diplomacy.

SOFIA.- Get ready to imagine, Sofia! The city is buzzing as the Sofia Art Fair prepares to open its doors from October 2nd to 5th, 2025, at Sofia Tech Park. This year's theme, IMAGINE, isn't just a catchy slogan; it's an invitation for artists to redefine the future, for galleries to stretch the boundaries of what's seen, and for the public to unlock their senses and dive into today's most cutting-edge art.

Making waves on the international front, the fair is thrilled to host Cristina Kahlo, great-niece of the legendary Frida Kahlo, and French multidisciplinary artist and DJ Agoria. Their presence promises to add a unique blend of heritage and futurism to Sofia's cultural landscape.

A Global Canvas in Sofia

Over four days, the Sofia Art Fair will transform the exhibition space into a vibrant hub of creativity, bringing together artists and galleries from 12 countries. Expect to see a diverse range of works, from traditional painting and sculpture to thought-provoking objects, photography, and innovative digital and mixed media.

International galleries like Austria's Artdepot Gallery and KUNSToffizin.Linz, the Netherlands' Dürst Britt & Mayhew, and the Czech Republic's Hidden Gallery are joining the lineup. They'll be alongside galleries from Hungary, Latvia, Romania, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Spain, ensuring a truly global perspective.

Bulgarian art is also front and center, with a strong contingent of Sofia-based galleries including Atelier 28, DOZA Gallery, and Vivacom Art Hall Oborishte 5, among others. Regional talents like Narativa Gallery from Veliko Tarnovo and Atelietata Collective from Plovdiv will also be showcasing their work. This impressive artistic melting pot solidifies the fair's mission: to be a vital map of contemporary art, both regionally and internationally.

Beyond the displays, the SAF Talks program will gather leading figures from the global art scene—including institution directors, curators, and cultural experts—to foster engaging dialogue and exchange.

Spotlight on the Stars: Kahlo's Legacy and Agoria's Vision

Cristina Kahlo's participation is more than just an artistic event; it's a symbolic connection to one of modern art's most iconic women. Carrying both the familial and spiritual ties to Frida, Kristina will present a visual language shaped by personal memory, emotional intensity, and the undeniable echo of Frida's rebellious spirit. Her journey from Mexico to Sofia is set to be a powerful moment for visitors.

Adding a futuristic edge to the program is Agoria, the French multidisciplinary artist and DJ. Known for his immersive and atmospheric soundscapes, Agoria made history as the first visual artist to complete a digital project at the Musée d'Orsay and played a part in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games closing ceremony. His presence promises to blur the lines between art, technology, and emotion in a truly impactful way.

Innovating the Art Experience

This year, the Sofia Art Fair is pushing boundaries with a joint project alongside the Virtual and Augmented Reality Laboratory at Sofia Tech Park. A dedicated zone will offer visitors a chance to experience VR and AR art, featuring works by artists selected through an open call. It's an exciting step into a new dimension where art meets cutting-edge technology.

The Sofia Art Fair aims to be more than an exhibition; it's a cultural platform for artists and audiences to connect, share ideas, and engage in cultural diplomacy. There will be a dedicated children's zone, expert-led curatorial tours, and educational panels designed to offer fresh perspectives. Plus, access is completely free for children and young people under 18, as well as for people with disabilities, ensuring the fair is accessible to all.

IMAGINE – one word that transforms the future into the present and art into a universal language. The Sofia Art Fair can't wait to welcome you.

The Sofia Art Fair is organized by the "Sofia Breathes" Foundation, under the patronage of Sofia Mayor Mr. Vasil Terziev, and is a proud part of the Sofia Municipality's 2025 Cultural Calendar.

Special thanks go to the event's partners, including Bulgarian-American Credit Bank as a strategic partner, committed to sustainable development and investing in initiatives that inspire change. Other key partners include Art and Culture Today, Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation, The Locals Advertising Agency, and Sofia Tech Park, along with institutional support from the Embassy of the Republic of France, the French Institute in Bulgaria, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Liszt Institute, the Austrian Cultural Forum Sofia, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain, and Instituto Cervantes - Sofia.
