TEL AVIV.- The Center for Contemporary Art Tel Aviv-Yafo announced the appointment of Hila Cohen-Schneiderman as its director and chief curator succeeding Nicola Trezzi, the Center’s director and curator for the past seven years, who has been appointed curator at Pinacoteca Agnelli in Turin.

Cohen-Schneiderman brings extensive expertise in curating, exhibition-making, and institutional leadership within Israel’s contemporary art scene. Her practice focuses on experimental approaches and engages with art in urban and environmental contexts. The recipient of the 2021 Curatorial Award from the Ministry of Culture and Sports, she served as chief curator of MoBY: Museums of Bat Yam from 2018 to 2024. Between 2016 and 2017, she was the curator and artistic director of the Liebling Program in Tel Aviv, and from 2012 to 2016, she was curator at the Petach Tikva Museum of Art. Cohen-Schneiderman teaches at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, the newly established MFA program at Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art in Tel Aviv, and the School of Visual Theater in Jerusalem.

Hila Cohen-Schneiderman states: “These are challenging times to lead an international cultural institution in Israel. I am grateful to the Board of Directors of CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo for their vote of confidence. This institution plays a vital role within the local art community and in fostering its connection to the international art field. I believe that, alongside preserving the institution’s achievements, it is precisely in times like these that we must cultivate profound, underground processes of growth – processes whose impact will be reflected in the years to come.”

Sergio Edelsztein, the Center’s founding director and chair of the Board of Directors, remarks: “We are excited to welcome Cohen-Schneiderman as the new director and chief curator of the Center for Contemporary Art Tel Aviv-Yafo. Her knowledge, experience, and vision will be essential to navigating these challenging times and supporting the local creative community in Israel while maintaining a strong international dialogue.”

Over the past seven years as director and curator of CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo, Nicola Trezzi has overseen over forty exhibitions, both by artists from Israel, living in Israel and from abroad; expanded the Center’s community of patrons and yearly budget and operations; rebranded the institution with a new website and communication fully trilingual; and established new initiatives such as the Center’s Director’s Circle, a new group of supporters, and the Rywkind Ben Zour Grant for Art, Education and Community.

CCA’s Board of Directors wishes to thank Nicola Trezzi for leading the Center during most difficult times, making its international and local presence a remarkable one and wishes him continued success in his new endeavors.
