HONG KONG.- Art Central, presented with Lead Partner, UOB, successfully concluded its milestone Tenth Edition today. A cornerstone of Hong Kong Art Week, the Fair was held from 26 to 30 March (VIP Preview on 25 March) with steady sales reported throughout. At its iconic Central Harbourfront location, Art Central presented its largest gallery presentation to date, with 108 galleries and works by over 500 artists from more than 40 countries and territories worldwide. An ambitious and diverse creative programme complimented the Fair, which included commissioned installations, performances, video art, talks, tours and more. Art Central 2025 was financially supported by the Mega Arts and Cultural Events Fund under the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
Since its inception in 2015, Art Central has played a crucial role in nurturing Hong Kongs arts ecosystem by spotlighting emerging and established contemporary artists from Asia and beyond. Art Central 2025 returned as a distinguished, boundary-pushing platform that presented the next generation of artists alongside those of global renown to over 43,000 local and international visitors on Asia's largest stage for arts and culture. During the six-day Fair, visitors viewed works in its extensive gallery presentation and engaged in diverse programming which championed daring new perspectives to celebrate transnational narratives. The milestone edition saw an expanded curatorial team with the return of Enoch Cheng, curator of the gallery presentations, and the addition of Aaditya Sathish as curator of the Fairs creative programming and Shirky Chan, who curated the partner project with the Hong Kong Tourism Board, spotlighting three pioneering creatives from Hong Kong and Guangzhou.
Neo returned to the Fair for its second year where fifteen selected galleries from Asia, Europe and the Americas featured cutting-edge or undiscovered artists in their first and second years of participation. Introduced for the Tenth Edition was Legend, a curator-led initiative that presented the work of renowned artists born before 1970. Exploring connections in art-making from the past to the present, special exhibits on the work of six distinguished and influential artists from the Asia-Pacific region have been selected to participate. The Fair also saw a special focus on photography which placed a spotlight on contemporary attitudes toward photographic media and extended the narrative around this expansive medium.
Amongst the diverse works presented at Art Central this year were the commissioned large-scale installation, A Brazen Rift (After Branzi) (2025), by artist Nadim Abbas (b. 1980, Hong Kong), in addition to five large-scale artworks selected for this editions Yi Tai Sculpture & Installation Projects sector. These included a large-scale textile installation by Korean artist Shinduk Kang, sculptural installations by London-based Mark Lawson Bell, a multi-media installation by New York-based Roxane Revon, and Taipei artist Dean-E Mei, as well as an immersive installation by Sichuan artist Dai Ying.
Unveiled at the Tenth Edition was Cinema Central, the Fairs dedicated video theatre showing Video Art for the first time. Curated by Aaditya Sathish, the Video Art programme, titled On the Shores of
, examined the role of today's networks in simplifying connections with people and access to information, while also establishing a new realm where unexplored worlds can be discovered. A curated selection of four video works from Akeroyd Collection, the moving image collection of Hong Kong-based philanthropist Shane Akeroyd, was also presented at the Fair. Unveiled at Art Central 2025 was a new model for its Performance programme through the introduction of Lecture-Performance, an art form that focuses on research-based performances executed through a combination of text, imagery and movement.
Curated by Shirky Chan and in partnership with the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Fair presented Studio Central, a creative project that highlighted three artists from Hong Kong and Guangzhou including artist-architect Maggie Chu, kinetic installation artist Tung Wing-Hong and transdisciplinary artist collective BOLOHO in their own transformative booths.
As the Lead Partner of Art Central, UOB presented an exclusively interactive ink art installation created by Hong Kong artist Tony Ng Kwun Lun, titled Clouds of Continuity. Part of Ng's The Diary of Clouds series, the piece, featuring 60 handcrafted white cloud sculptures made from acrylic sheets, harmonises ancient and contemporary imagery to evoke hope and introspection. Additionally, as part of its commitment to nurturing artistic talent and showcasing the works of artists from Hong Kong and beyond, the two UOB Art Spaces at Art Central presented the 2024 UOB Art in Ink Awards Winners Showcase and the UOB Painting of the Years Artists Showcase. Accompanying the exhibitions, the Bank, in association with the UOB Art Academy, a registered charity organisation in Hong Kong, presented a variety of UOB Art in Ink Workshops and hosted a panel discussion titled Beyond Vision: The Role of Cross-disciplinary Collaboration in Art which explored the role of cross-disciplinary collaboration within contemporary art practices.
Art Central partnered with Black Sheep who presented Black Sheep Gallery to offer unparalleled hospitality through six dining concepts at Eat Central. This year, Black Sheep's Botanical Garden made its Art Central debut, providing refreshing beverages. Soho House Hong Kong returned to the Fair with a pop-up bar and a mural centrepiece by artist Elsa Jeandedieu. illy presented exquisite Italian espresso and whole bean beverages designed to awaken the senses and enhance appreciation for the arts, and introduced illy Art Collection GENESI in Hong Kong, which featured four prominent female artists works on illy cups.
