Inge Morath, a Graz-born photographer who rose to prominence in the mid-20th century, is celebrated for her insightful portraits and documentary work. The exhibition at the FLATZ Museum highlights her diverse career, spanning her early days as a journalist in Salzburg, to her pivotal role as a photographer for Magnum Photos, where she became the agency's first female member in 1953.

The exhibition presents a curated selection of Morath's images, reflecting her travels across Europe, Africa, Asia, and America. Her renowned portraits of cultural figures such as Marilyn Monroe, Jean Cocteau, Alberto Giacometti, and Louise Bourgeois are featured, alongside lesser-known works that offer a broader view of her artistic vision.

"The exhibition at the FLATZ Museum is a significant contribution to the cultural landscape of our city," stated Mayor Andrea Kaufmann. "It brings nationally renowned photography to Dornbirn and makes it accessible to a wide audience."

Cultural Councilor Alexander Juen added, "With this exhibition, we are setting another impulse for artistic discourse and creating an inspiring place for encounter and exchange."

Morath's approach to photography, characterized by careful preparation and a deep respect for her subjects, is evident throughout the exhibition. Her own words, "I prepare for a portrait shoot just as carefully as for a trip to a new country," highlight her dedication to capturing the "inner truth" of her subjects.

The exhibition's opening was part of a "Vernissage Triathlon," a cultural event that linked three prominent Dornbirn venues: the FLATZ Museum, Kunstraum Dornbirn, and designforum Vorarlberg. This collaborative initiative created a dynamic celebration of art, culture, and design within the city.

"I Trust My Eyes" offers visitors a comprehensive look at Inge Morath's significant contribution to 20th-century photography, providing a window into her life and work through her distinctive visual language. The exhibition will run until 31 May, 2025.
