European Kinship—Eastern European Perspective exhibition
February 12–April 20, 2025
Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center

How can Eastern Europeanism be defined? What is it that is distinctively its own, that binds the peoples who live here and share a common history and geography? And what are the global solutions to local specificities? Or what and how does all this become one in Euro-ness? What are the trends towards deeper European integration and more international cooperation? And how do they affect artistic-photographic practices dealing with the world around us, its phenomena, its effects, and the related feelings and problems? The six-chapter exhibition European Kinship – Eastern European Perspective reflects on European identity through the work of Polish and Hungarian photographers, exploring contemporary experiences from a specifically regional point of view.

Exhibiting artists: Szabolcs Barakonyi, Anita Horváth, Katerina Kouzmitcheva, Pictorial Collective, Agnieszka Sejud, Zsuzsi Simon, Sputnik Photos, Júlia Standovár, Éva Szombat, Ilona Szwarc, Karolina Wojtas, Ada Zielinska.

Curators: Wiktoria Michałkiewicz (PL, REZO Agency), Mucsi Emese (HU, Capa Center).

Opening of the exhibition Book of Long Objects by Lia Dostlieva at PLATAN Gallery, Polish Institute Budapest
March 27, 2025, 6pm

The Book of Long Objects by Ukrainian artist Lia Dostlieva is a collection of images and fairytale-like short stories, where each narrative is tied to a specific long object, traces three generations of one Ukrainian family through wars and episodes of forced displacement—from Soviet rule to Nazi occupation and then to independent Ukraine and the current Russo-Ukrainian war. Focusing predominantly on small, intimate details and written from the female perspective, the book follows women in the family as they navigate the challenges of everyday life during a time of historical turmoil. Seemingly random and peculiar objects, each one of which is long, are explained one by one, weaving together a story of female resistance to grand narratives and great colonial powers www.liadostlieva.org.
