Dolls in Art

When most people think of sex dolls, they typically think of being alone at home – but have you ever considered these dolls being used in art? Sex dolls have been included in a variety of different artworks and mediums, so let’s get into it!

Ovid’s Pygmalion from Greek Mythology is the earliest example I could find of a man falling in love with a doll. If you haven’t read it, it’s a great read and has inspired a number of other works.

The Mechanical Maiden by Storybird https://www.story.com/story/other/the-mechanical-maiden

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? By Philip K. Dick, which was later adapted into the box office hit Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 by Ridley Scott.

The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin, which was adapted twice into movies of the same name – first in 1975 and again in 2004.

The Mechanical Bride: Folklore of an Industrial Man by Marshall McLuhan, which was later adapted into a film The Mechanical Bride by Allison de Fren.

Westworld by Michael Crichton, along with the sequel Futureworld.

Ex Machina by Alex Garland

Beyond standard works, there have also been a number of installations and exhibitions over the years, showing how integral sex dolls have been to society throughout history (read more about the history of sex dolls here: [ADDLINKTOPAGE]). Some of these include:

"Sex Dolls: A Contemporary Perspective" - A curated exhibition featuring works by various artists exploring the theme of sex dolls in contemporary art.

"Synthetic Sensations" - An installation featuring a collection of sex dolls in various poses and settings, exploring themes of desire, objectification, and technology.

"Artificial Intimacy" - A gallery exhibition featuring works by artists who use sex dolls to explore themes of relationships, loneliness, and human connection.

"Digital Devotion" - An exhibition showcasing mixed media works that combine sex dolls with digital elements, exploring the intersection of technology and human desire.

"Plastic Pleasures" - An exhibition featuring hyperrealistic paintings of sex dolls in provocative poses, challenging societal norms and expectations.

"The History of Sex Dolls" - A museum exhibit exploring the evolution of sex dolls from ancient times to the present day.

"Sex Toys: A Cultural History" - An exhibit showcasing a variety of sex toys, including sex dolls, and their cultural significance.

"The Future of Sex" - An exhibit exploring the impact of technology on sexuality and relationships, featuring sex dolls as one of the topics.

As you can see, sex dolls are more than just an adult toy. They have been used in a number of different mediums, and are more and more commonly seen in advertising, particularly for clothing. US-based AbsoluteSexDoll [anchor “AbsoluteSexDoll” link: https://absolutesexdoll.com/] offers dolls that can be customized to meet the needs of any artist!
