ATLANTA, GA.- The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgias (MOCA GA) staff and board were joined by friends, supporters, and artists on Wednesday, December 18, for a special groundbreaking ceremony marking a new chapter for the organization.
Throughout the duration of the capital campaign to fund the facilitys construction, donors were given vials of an original artifact from a rammed earth sculpture featured in MOCA GAs inaugural exhibition Martin Emanuel: Sculpture, which opened to the public on February 3, 2002. To symbolically unite MOCA GAs legacy and history to its prosperous future, all attending emptied the contents of their vials onto the ground that will hold the entryway of the new museum. Immediately following the ceremony, concrete was poured over the earth, cementing MOCA GAs future on this property.
MOCA GA has grounded itself in the community for over 24 years as the only institution dedicated solely to supporting Georgias artists and providing the community with the opportunity to experience Georgias contemporary visual art through its exhibitions, collection and archives, and educational programming.
