SAINT-PRIEST-EN-JAREZ.- The Musée d’art moderne et contemporain de Saint-Étienne Métropole (MAMC+), located in France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, is reopening its doors to the public on November 9, 2024 having undergone renovation work in order to respond to the challenges of the day and offer a fresh new visitor experience.

Reopening exhibitions

As the MAMC+ reopens, discover a programme of four exhibitions which span ancient, modern, and contemporary art, featuring some of the leading figures from art history as well as young creative talent to be discovered, and giving an overview of the history of the MAMC+ collection:

Bigger Than Life—Collections Under Construction
November 9, 2024 to August 11, 2025
Curator: Zoé Marty

The Bigger than life exhibition is an invitation to discover contemporary and ancient paintings which have been chosen for their monumental scale. This collection of contemporary paintings allows visitors to look back over the history of the collection, and of the acquisitions policy which was in place before and after the Musée d’art moderne opened in 1987. Several restoration projects will be carried out and put on show for visitors throughout the exhibition period.

Brand New! Donations to the Collections
November 9, 2024 to March 9, 2025
Curator: Alexandre Quoi

The MAMC+ reveals an ensemble of remarkable pieces which have been added to the collection recently thanks to the generosity of donors: artists and rights-holders, gallery-owners, private collectors, and the Amis du musée association. Spread over almost 1000 m², this exhibition of works from the collections includes around 20 artists and over 150 of their pieces from the 1960s to the present day.

David Meskhi: Our Son, My Moon
November 9, 2024 to March 16, 2025
Curator: Aurélie Voltz

Born in 1979 in Tbilisi (Georgia), David Meskhi grew up in a sporting environment. For several years, he has been photographing young athletes apparently defying the laws of gravity during their training sessions. Among the seventy prints are images taken in 2023 in three sports clubs in Saint-Étienne. This exhibition was given the seal of approval by Paris 2024 as part of the Olympiade Culturelle.

Anne Bourse: Nights
November 9, 2024 to March 16, 2025
Curator: Alexandre Quoi

Winner of the 11th edition of the MAMC+ Prix des Partenaires for graphic art, Anne Bourse has put together an ensemble of new pieces for her first solo exhibition in a museum in France. Under the title Nuits (Nights), she invents a world on the edges of fiction, inhabited by a building manager’s room surrounded by models, benches, and display shelves.
