SÃO PAULO.- A Gentil Carioca announces Tororó, the first exhibition by Vinicius Gerheim at A Gentil Carioca São Paulo, opening on August 10th, Saturday, at 2pm. The critical text is signed by Felipe Molitor, who observes:

“Tororó presents a powerful set of landscapes that vacillate between interior and exterior scenarios, in which even the most apparent figures are sufficiently fleeting to be released into a flood of abstractions. As if they were remembrances, the scarce records of a bedroom, living room, kitchen or backyard are mixed with gardens, bushes, skies or streams - a confusion typical of the fantasy of dreams. The dreamlike dimension can also refer to images that have escaped from memory, after all, remembering places and moments from the past involves a good dose of imagination.”

The new artworks awaken the senses with their layers of paint rich in colour and texture. They construct varied perspectives, creating a unique spatiality that transcends the rational. The elements emerge according to the demands of the painting itself, adapting to the shapes and colours: thunder can turn into a twig, a flower into a mouth, a twig into a snake, a leaf into a bird...

The artist also highlights the beauty that comes from repeating and overlapping shapes and colours on canvases: "It's something that requires a lot of patience, dedication, discipline and a certain athletic energy, because you have to repeat the process several times, taking advantage of the bottom layer while it's still slightly wet, without losing the timing of the other layers. I think all this enriches the process."

The exhibition is open until September 21th 2024.
