Here is How You Can Get Your Realtor's License in MO

A job as a realtor in Missouri can be an exciting option if you are looking for something dynamic or are planning to switch careers. Most people think that working in the property industry only involves selling houses. However, there is more to it, from advising potential homeowners on the best mortgage options to managing properties on behalf of the owners.

But before you can embark on working in MO’s property market, you need a license from the state's Department of Real Estate. It is an exciting journey filled with unique challenges. Herein, we’ll break down the steps to help you get your Missouri realtor's license.

What Are the Prerequisites?
Every state has unique prerequisites for those who aspire to work as realtors. In Missouri, being 18 years or older and of good moral standing are the only requirements. A high school diploma or a GED are not must-haves, but getting a high school equivalency certificate will boost your chances of employment after completing your licensing.

But what if you have had trouble with the law in the past? Well, the best option is to contact MREC for an advisory opinion. They will review your case, focusing on the severity and age when you committed the crime, and advise you on the way forward.

Tackle the Pre-Licensing Program
The pre-licensing program curriculum is curated to help you gain relevant industry knowledge and skills. The program is 72 hours long and is split into two major sections. The first part is a foundational course covering the basics. There, you will learn about property market principles and laws and drafting contracts and appraisals.

The next section delves deeper into the workings of Missouri's property market. Under the 24-hour Practice Course, you will learn about ethics and professional practices to help mold you into an outstanding realtor.

Ensure that you choose the best pre-licensing course available. Using the best program will play a significant role in your journey toward course available.

Exam Time: What to Look Out For and Preparation
After completing the coursework, it is time to prove your understanding of the course content by sitting for the state's licensing exam. Like the pre-licensing program, the exam is split into two sections. The national portion has 100 questions covering federal property laws, regulations, and practices.

Part two focuses on state-related topics. The questions revolve around Missouri-specific real estate laws and regulations. This section only has 40 questions, and you must get 30 right to pass the test.

Background Checks
This is one of the easiest steps. You should have nothing to worry about if your record is clean. The process is simple. All you must do is visit a fingerprint collection center in MO. The relevant authorities will run a background check on you and send the results to MREC for review.

Also, start looking for a sponsoring broker. Their role is to help you find your footing as you start working as a licensed realtor in MO. Take your time reading reviews and getting recommendations from your instructors on the best brokers in MO.
