Art Report: Xueer Gao's "Hazy View, Lake Vapor
By:CHRIS KAUFMAN

Xueer Gao, a talented visual artist known for her unique style achieved through the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern art, has gained considerable attention in recent years. Her paper installation artwork "Hazy View, Lake Vapor," created in 2023, once again showcases her exceptional ability to blend traditional techniques with contemporary art.

"Hazy View, Lake Vapor" employs traditional paper art techniques, combining Chinese traditional plant fibers with modern paper materials. During the creation process, Gao utilized her deep understanding of Chinese traditional craftsmanship, merging it innovatively with modern art forms. This work strikes a perfect balance between tradition and modernity, presenting a misty effect that evokes the sensation of vapor rising from a lake, delicate and enchanting.

As an artist dedicated to the fusion of craftsmanship, Gao demonstrates her skill and keen understanding of materials in this piece. Her extensive knowledge and application of Chinese traditional craftsmanship imbue her work with a unique Eastern charm, while the integration of modern paper art adds a sense of contemporary flair and novelty.

Another piece from the same series, "Hua–Flower in the Fog," will be exhibited at the Arts North International 29 in 2024, held at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. This series of works, through the intricate expression of paper art, provides viewers with a unique visual experience and showcases Gao's profound understanding and artistic interpretation of natural elements.

Gao's work is not only a visual delight but also a dialogue between craftsmanship and art. In her creations, tradition and modernity are no longer opposing concepts but complementary entities. Through works like "Hazy View, Lake Vapor," she demonstrates the limitless possibilities of traditional craftsmanship in contemporary art.
