Metal sculpture and fine art lead Michaan's Auctions May Annex Sale
Containing a wide variety of jewelry, fine art, decorative arts, furniture, Asian art, stamps, and coins, the monthly Annex sale represents Michaan’s Auctions’ accessible sales opportunity.



ALAMEDA, CALIF.- Michaan’s Auctions May Annex Sale, held on Monday, May 13th; Tuesday, May 14th; and Wednesday, May 15th; generated nearly a 92% sell-through rate as Michaan’s Auctions realized another successful sale for its consigners.

The sale was headlined by Lot 246, a Group of Brass and Metal Decorative Items, an innocuous grouping offered in the third hour of the sale that inspired extended competition, eventually driving the hammer price to $4,875. Including a female figure in the style of Matisse, a giraffe reminiscent of Dali’s distorted paintings, as well as a number of candleholders, ash trays and a teapot, this lot greatly exceeded expectations providing excellent value to Michaan’s Auctions consigners. The Furniture and Decorative Department achieved additional notable prices with Lot 435, Five Italian Carved and Painted Altar Figures, which reached $1,820, and Lot 2058, a Longines World Clocks, Olympics 1960 Squaw Valley which sold for $1,235. Lot 2118, an Oversized Seth Thomas Wall Clock was another popular item, with bids culminating at $1,105, and Lot 1621, George III Mahogany Serpentine Chest realized $975.

The Fine Art Department had a strong showing, led by Lot 1342, Roy Madsen (late 20th century), “Spirit Bear,” patina bronze, which eventually reached a final price of
$2,925, while Lot 1958 A Framed Abstract Artwork, D. Bonmin, 2-62, achieved
$1,170. Finally, Lot 705, Nude Woman by Canedo with a Bi-Plane print proved highly desirable, eventually garnering $1,040.

Containing a wide variety of jewelry, fine art, decorative arts, furniture, Asian art, stamps, and coins, the monthly Annex sale represents Michaan’s Auctions’ accessible sales opportunity. The next Annex Auction will be held on Monday, June 10th; Tuesday, June 11th; and Wednesday, June 12th; featuring lots mostly estimated under $300.
