As the Art Hong Kong EXPO took place from May 16th to 19th at the Asia International Expo, Hong Kong, once again, became the epicenter of art and creativity. Showcasing a diverse array of cultural and artistic forms, the expo seamlessly blended the vibrancy of Asia's international metropolis with the fusion of world cultures. This year's exhibition featured the "Third Belt and Road Countries Cultural and Art Exchange Expo" alongside the "Sixth Hong Kong International Art and Collectibles Expo."
The Hong Kong EXPO presented a kaleidoscope of cultural and artistic expressions, ranging from traditional Chinese calligraphy, ceramics, and antiques to modern art, photography, embroidery, and installation art, showcasing the brilliance and diversity of art. Among the international artists and their works gathered at this expo, one piece stood out – "Huntington Dreams" by London-based artist Yuan Zhuang, which garnered attention by selling for a remarkable price of 35,000 Hong Kong dollars, capturing the local art market's interest.
Yuan Zhuang, a prominent figure in the art industry, specializes in fine art, interactive art, and sculpture installation. Her accolades include the National Project "Crossing the Snowy Mountains," collected by the Chinese National Museum, the Muse Design Awards 2023 Silver Award, and the Paris Design Awards 2023 Interior Design Winner, among others. As an assistant judge at the Tsinghua University China-Italy Design Innovation Hub and an invited guest speaker for the summer courses at Tsinghua University, her influence transcends traditional artistic boundaries.
"Huntington Dreams" marks Yuan Zhuang's innovative endeavor and her first outdoor depiction set in Los Angeles. This acrylic-on-wood piece, measuring 10 x 10 inches, portrays the vibrant and natural hues near the Huntington Library, illuminating the prosperity and landscapes of Los Angeles. Yuan Zhuang describes "Huntington Dreams" as a modern urban allegory, reflecting the intertwining of urban prosperity and nature while hinting at individual aesthetic pursuits. Amidst the temptations and challenges of urban life, the artist aims to provoke contemplation on inner dreams and nature, guiding viewers towards a more authentic and tranquil world.
At the auction of the Hong Kong EXPO, "Huntington Dreams" fetched a high price of 35,000 Hong Kong dollars, reaffirming Yuan Zhuang's unique charm and the market value of her work. This transaction underscores Yuan Zhuang's market recognition and value.
