Asian art, jewelry, and fine art departments highlight Michaan's Auction's Summer Fine Sale

ALAMEDA, CALIF.- Michaan’s Auctions Summer Fine Sale on Monday, June 17th features an incredible selection, full of the season’s most esteemed items. The sale is headlined by historically important works in the Asian Art Department, exquisite jewelry in the desirable Art-Deco style, and important works from notable American and European modernist artists. Also featured are fine examples of Persian carpets, sterling silver dishware, and an extremely rare book by an icon of American poetry.

The Asian Art Department will be offering jade, painted works, and historic vessels by important artists, in addition to many fine items in metal and porcelain. A Chinese Carved Jade Boat and Stand ($6/8,000) will lead the sale, an exciting opportunity to own a highly detailed work delicately carved from solid jade gemstone. Following this work is a painting Attributed to Fu Baoshi: Hanging Scroll ($5/8,000), an important work from the highly reputed modern painter from south-central China, and an ink painting Attributed to Shitao: 'Mountain Landscape', Hanging Scroll ($4/6,000) dated to the late 17th century. Also on offer is A Large Carved Jade Dragon Belt Buckle ($6/800), and a signed ink and color scroll Attributed to Li Keran: Hanging Scroll ($3/5,000). Finally, the department is proud to offer A Set of Ten Archaistic Bronze Vessels ($20/30,000) from the Warring States period of the mid-5th century.

The Jewelry Department is highlighting several outstanding pieces in this month’s sale, leading with two pieces in the Art-Deco style. First is an Art Deco Diamond, Synthetic Sapphire, Platinum Bracelet ($3/5,000), and an Art Deco Diamond, Platinum Bracelet ($2/3,000). Also offered this month, is a Diamond Ring ($10/15,000), featuring a massive stone, an Italian Enamel, Diamond, Ruby, 18k Yellow Gold Suite ($8/12,000), and an 18k Yellow Gold Necklace ($4/6,000).

Finally, rounding out the section will be three unique items, a Van Cleef & Arpels Virgo Zodiac Pendant ($3/5,000), a Victorian Diamond, Cultured Pearl, Silver, Gold Parure ($3/5,000), and a Denise Roberge Multi-Stone, 18k Yellow Gold Bracelet ($3/5,000).

The Fine Art Department is headlined by the sale of three significant bronzes as well as several works in watercolor and gouache. The first bronze is Robert Graham, Elisa, bronze ($5/8,000), a striking figural work that highlights the artist’s keen eye for balance and pose, the second, Edith Barretto (Stevens) Parsons, Three Lambs, bronzes ($2/2,500), and the third, Elisabeth Frink, Homme Libellule, bronze ($10/15,000). These works will be offered alongside three excellent watercolor and gouache works, Walter Plunkett, Costume Sketch, Rhett, gouache ($3/4,000), Sister Gertrude Morgan, Ruth 1:8, watercolor, gouache ($2/3,000), and Nathan Oliveria, Erotic 1 and 2, two watercolors ($6/800). Finally, Michaan’s Auctions is proud to offer a notable print by the German modernist, Wassily Kandinsky, Small Worlds III, lithograph ($10/12,000), amongst others works.

The Furniture & Decorations Department will be highlighting two excellent light pieces, the first of which is the Duffner and Kimberly Lamp ($10/15,000) which features a beautiful stained-glass shade atop a velvet-wrapped bronze stem. Second, is a limited- edition globular form urn, the Gio Ponti for Ginori Maiolica Urn, Diana the Huntress ($3/5,000), featuring a vibrant scene with Diana the Huntress attacking a stag. Also highlighted are a Louis Vuitton Wardrobe Steamer Trunk ($7/9,000), featuring the brand’s iconic monogram finish, and an Eames for Herman Miller ESU 200 Storage Unit ($3/5,000). Also in our Summer Fine Sale, a Tiffany Studios Counterbalance Favrile Lamp ($4/7,000) an 18th Century Georgian Burl Walnut Secretary ($3/5,000), and a Dirk Van Erp Copper and Mica Boudoir Lamp ($3/5,000).

The Rugs, Carpets & Textiles Department has a particularly strong selection in our Summer Fine Sale. The department would like to highlight the Antique Inscribed Sarouk Carpet ($10/15,000) on offer, an early 20th century rug from an important

California collection. Next is a Mohatasham Kashan ($8/12,000) and an Antique Sarouk Carpet ($6/900), both fine examples of Persian rug design. Meanwhile, the Books & Manuscripts Department is featuring an Arion Press Bibliography and Folio with Leaves, 100 Vols ($8/12,000), an elegant folio containing printed leaves and artwork from the First One Hundred Volumes from Arion Press, and a limited- edition book, Arion Press, Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass ($7/10,000). Finally, the Silver & Objects de Vertu Department will offer a collection of Four Paul Storr Sterling Silver Entree Dishes ($10/15,000).
