MADISON, WI.- This summer, the University of Wisconsin – Madison, in collaboration with the State of Wisconsin, will be soliciting for a design team for a 62,000 GSF addition to the Chazen Museum of Art (formerly known as the Elvehjem Museum of Art.) As envisioned, our museum will double in size and become the centerpiece of a new Campus Arts District. This building will also become the jewel of the East Campus Mall, a pedestrian corridor which stretches from Regent Street to Lake Mendota, already under construction. The project will include collaboration with an artist on the development of a 3rd story bridge between the galleries of the new addition and the existing building, as well as the design of the surrounding landscape elements and forecourt. The museum expansion is being made possible through the generosity of our lead donors, Simona and Jerome Chazen, who are major collectors in their own right and patrons of the arts. We anticipate the total project cost for the museum expansion will be approximately $35M. Design teams will become eligible and ultimately selected via the State of Wisconsin competitive selection process.
