NEW YORK, NY.- The Board of Trustees of the Morgan Library & Museum has elected Robert K. Steel and G. Scott Clemons as Co-Presidents effective April 1, 2024. Along with Martha McGarry, newly elected as a Vice President, and other members of the Executive Committee, they will lead the institution into its second century and spearhead the execution of the Morgan’s new five-year strategic plan. Lawrence R. Ricciardi will step down as President after a thirteen-year tenure.

Both Bob and Scott are dedicated and engaged Trustees, who will bring a remarkable range of skills and talents to their new leadership roles. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Larry for his decades of unparalleled service to the Morgan.”

G. Scott Clemons joined the Board of Trustees in 2021, and he serves as a member of the Finance Committee and Investment Subcommittee, as well as the Centennial Committee and the Trustee Strategic Plan Advisory Group. An active member of the Printed Books and Bindings Committee, he became Committee Chair, succeeding T. Kimball Brooker, in 2022. Clemons is a book collector and a Partner at the private bank Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. He is a past President of the Grolier Club of New York City and currently serves as the Chairman of Rare Book School at the University of Virginia. A graduate of Princeton University (Classics), he lives in Manhattan with his wife and twin teenagers.

Robert K. Steel joined the Board of Trustees in 2015, and he serves as Co-Chair of the Development Committee and a member of the Finance and Centennial Committees. Since 2014, Steel has been Partner and Vice Chairman of Perella Weinberg Partners. Prior to this, he served as New York City’s Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and as CEO and President of Wachovia Corporation, and he spent thirty years at Goldman Sachs. His extensive nonprofit board experience includes roles as Chairman Emeritus of the Aspen Institute, Chairman of the Duke University Board of Trustees, Senior Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and board member of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Hospital for Special Surgery, and Rockefeller University, among others. He is a graduate of Duke University and the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.

The Board of Trustees elected Martha McGarry as a Vice President. McGarry joined the Board in 2016, and she is Co-Chair of the Centennial Committee and a member of both the Nominating and Governance Committee and the Employee and Benefits Committee. She has been Co-Head of Mergers and Acquisitions at Mayer Brown LP since September of 2021. Prior to this, she spent thirty-six years as a Partner in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group of Skadden, Arps. Her practice focuses on public company mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance matters, and shareholder activism. She is a graduate of Middlebury College and Fordham University.

Rachel R. Stern was elected as a Trustee. Stern serves as the Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer, Secretary, and Global Head of Strategic Resources of FactSet, a leading global financial information services company. She is an Independent Director of Baron Capital Management, Inc., a private asset management company, and Morrow Sodali, a TPG Growth portfolio company. She is the Chair-Elect of the Board of Trustees of the Baldwin School, an all-girls pre-K through 12 preparatory school in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and a Director of the UJA-Federation of New York.

Stern earned a B.A. summa cum laude from Yale University, an M.A. with distinction from the University of London, and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, where she was an Executive Editor of the Law Review. She was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Vienna.
