Asian art and jewelry departments lead March gallery auction

ALAMEDA, CALIF.- Michaan’s Auctions March Gallery Auction, held on Friday, March 15th realized a strong sell-through rate as Michaan’s Auctions orchestrated another successful sale for its consigners. The sale was headlined by a celadon glazed dish from the Asian Art Department, which inspired intense action from multiple bidders, and several collectible items that achieved significant prices.

The sale was headlined by the Asian Art Department, which featured numerous vases and porcelain of excellent workmanship in addition to fine furniture and jewelry. A Chinese Celadon Glazed Stem Dish inspired intense competition from multiple bidders, which eventually drove the price to $26,000 after several minutes of bidding. Later in the sale, Two Huanghuali and Mixwood Armchairs and a Table, attracted significant attention from internet and in-person bidding, finally reaching $7,150. The department is also proud to announce that the elegant design of the Group of Jade Hardstone Trees with a Coral proved highly desirable, selling for $2,925, while a Large Chinese Famille Rose Chrysanthemum Bottle Vase reached $3,575.

Michaan’s Auctions March Gallery sale featured numerous interesting collectibles, furniture, and decorative items which achieved notable prices for our consigners. Leading the way is Kan's San Francisco Restaurant Autograph Book, containing the signatures of numerous notable visitors including Winston Churchill, Anne Bancroft, Terry Bradshaw, William Shatner, Joe DiMaggio, Marilyn Monroe, and Frank Sinatra among others, which exceeded generous estimates as it sold for $20,800. Another successful lot was the Tiffany Studios Table Lamp #445 with Dome Shade, a notable example from the esteemed glass manufacturer, selling for $5,850. The Furniture Department led with an Aesthetic Movement Inlaid Chair Attr to Herter Brothers, achieving $3,250, while a Queen Anne Marble Top Mahogany Console Table reached $1,690.

The Jewelry Department was led by a Bulgari Ancient Roman Coin, 18k Yellow Gold Ring a beautiful ring featuring a fine third-century BCE Roman Coin that reached
$3,250 after sustained interest throughout the week led to inspired bidding from Michaan’s Auctions clients. The department continued its strong showing with a

Diamond, Sapphire, 18k Gold Ring, which reached $3,575, and a Butterscotch Amber Bead Necklace, which achieved $5,200.

The Fine Art Department was headlined by the piece by famed children’s author and illustrator, Dr. Seuss, Freebird, serigraph as aggressive amongst online bidders raised its final price to $3,575. A significant work by American photographer Imogen Cunningham, Magnolia Blossom, photo was another particularly sought-after lot that achieved $4,875. The department finished with a George Henry Boughton, Seabreeze, oil, a 19th-century work by the acclaimed Anglo-American artist that reached $2,210.

The Stamp and Coin Department had another strong showing this month, leading with a US 1923 Peace Dollars (48) Mixed Condition which garnered bids up to $1,300. Many other fine examples sold for well above their estimates, including two Lot of (33) 1921 Morgan Dollars Mixed Condition which realized $1,040 and $975, while US 1923 Peace Dollars (45) Mixed Condition reached $1,040. while a US $500 Bill Series 1928 Bank of San Francisco VF-XF achieved $2,210.
