ALAMEDA, CA.- Michaans Auctions February Gallery Auction, held on Friday, February 16th realized a strong sell-through rate as Michaans Auctions orchestrated another successful sale for its consigners.
The sale was headlined by an Unmounted Pear-Cut 2.96 cts. "D" Colorless Diamond which inspired intense competition from six phone bidders, in addition to absentee and floor bidding, driving the price to $32,500, while an Unmounted Pear-Cut
2.45 cts. "D" Colorless Diamond, far exceeded its estimate, reaching $24,700. Arnaldo Pomodoro, Rilievo, bronze, with book will return to Italy, as the lots aggressive bidding raised its final price to $16,900. Sir Peter Lely, Frances, Duchess of Lennox, oil, from the historic Filoni Estate was another particularly sought-after lot and also achieved $16,900. A fine edition of A Tibetan Thangka led the Asian Art department and reached $15,600, while an Antique J.T. Dickman Clown Cast Iron Shooting Target sold for $11,050. The Asian Art Department continued its strong showing with a Pair of Chinese Huanghuali and Mixed Wood Armchairs, which reached $11,050, and a Diamond, 14k Yellow Gold Ring, which sold for $9,225.
The March Gallery Auction will be held on Friday, March 15th. This auction is led by the Fine Art Department, which features Frank Duveneck, Meadow Village View, oil ($7/10,000), Stow Wengenroth, New York Nocturne, 1945, lithograph ($5/8,000), and Frank Duveneck, Man Reading, oil ($4/6,000). Pratchaya Charernsook, Evening Time ($4/5,000) and Siriroj Kotwongsa, Cloud Street ($3,5/4,000) from the Asian Art Department. Also featured are an Art Deco Style Custom Birch Veneer Dining Table ($2/4,000), an International Watch Co. 18k Yellow Gold Pocket Watch ($2/3,000), and a Multi-Stone Butterfly Brooch ($1,8/2,500).
