Magic: The Gathering Arabian Nights Sealed Booster Box (Wizards of the Coast, 1993).

DALLAS, TX.- Call it a Nights shift.

The appearance of a Magic: The Gathering Arabian Nights Sealed Booster Box (Wizards of the Coast, 1993)in Heritage’s February 16-17 Trading Card Games Signature® Auction marks the first time this extraordinary set has been offered at the world’s leading collectibles auctioneer.

“This is an incredible offering, a must-have for the most serious of Magic: The Gathering and trading card games collectors,” says Jesus Garcia, trading card games consignment director at Heritage Auctions. “This is the game’s very first expansion set, based on The Book of One Thousand and One Nights. Part of what makes it extraordinary is that collectors have a chance to acquire what amount to error cards: a number of the cards have two versions — a light version and a dark version — because of printing errors that resulted in different shades of the mana symbols.

“Adding to the allure of this set: it is from a very limited print run and the fact that the cards from this set nearly had a different card back design, which can be seen on the booster box. Keep in mind, this box is more than 30 years old. Finding a sealed box is rare, especially in such extraordinary condition.”

Also a product of an exceedingly low print run is a Pokémon 1st Edition Base Set Sealed Booster Box (Wizards of the Coast, 1999). The box includes 102 cards, including the in-demand Charizard that is eagerly pursued by the most serious of collectors. Booster boxes like this one always are in high demand, but to find one still sealed in its original shrink-wrap is an undeniable rarity — few examples still exist, and even fewer ever are made available to the collecting market.

A Pokémon 2010 World Championships No. 2 Trainer Trophy Card PSA Trading Card Game NM-MT 8 (The Pokémon Company, 2010) features one of the most sought-after cards in the entire Pokémon game. The half-art Pokémon World Championships trophy cards — only 33 of which share this exact artwork — were awarded from 2004-13. With the exception of 2013, when six cards were awarded, no more than three were awarded each year, making this beauty one of just three in existence; this example was awarded to the second-place winner of the 2010 championship. It is worth nothing that the credited artist is Ryo Ueda, but that likely is an error, because the art does not differ from the prints credited to K. Hoshiba. The annual World Championships are arguably the biggest events in Pokémon history; the 2010 Pokémon World Championships were held in Waikoloa Village, Hawaii. Offered inthis auction is the only example PSA has certified with an NM-MT 8 grade, with none graded higher.

A Pokémon Koffing Unnumbered Promo 64 Mario Stadium Best Photo Contest CGC Trading Card Game MINT 9 (The Pokémon Company, 1999) was taken by Natsu Sato in the 1999 64 Mario Stadium Best Photo Contest, in which contested took pictures they hoped to land in the N64 classic game, Pokémon Snap! The top five winning photos were printed on reprint cards from the Japanese Pokémon TCG Expansion Pack. Only 15 cards of each winning photo, including the one offered in this auction, were made and distributed to the winners. Even more impressive: this is the only copy ever graded by CGC.

The Koffing card is not the only one in the auction that emerged from the 1999 64 Mario Stadium Best Photo Contest, which also yielded a Pokémon Chansey Unnumbered Promo 64 Mario Stadium Best Photo Contest CGC Trading Card Game MINT 9 (The Pokémon Company, 1999) taken by Kaori Someya. Like the Koffing card, this is one of just 15 examples made.

A Pokémon Victory Ring “Pikachu” No. 3 Unnumbered Promo Battle Road Spring & Original Frame (The Pokémon Company, 2005) Holo is one of the most coveted and elusive cards, an unnumbered promo given to each of the top three winners of each regional during the 2005 Spring Battle Road, during which just 81 copies were handed out. The artwork for its predecessor was altered when Takumi Akabane added Pikachu to the card. This copy arrives inside the original plaque, which states that it was awarded to one of the No. 3 trainers.

Starting in 2014, the artwork for the Pokémon 2017 World Championship No. 3 Trainer Trophy Card PSA Trading Card Game MINT 9 (The Pokémon Company, 2017) was changed from half art to full art. The example offered in this auction was awarded to the third-place winner of the 2017 Pokémon World Championships, which were held in Anaheim, California, and it is the only one to earn a Mint 9 grade from PSA.

Other top lots include, but are not limited to:

• A Pokémon First Edition Neo Destiny Set Sealed Booster Box (Wizards of the Coast, 2002)

• A Pokémon Lucky Stadium Tropical Mega Battle Promo PSA Trading Card Game NM-MT 8 (The Pokémon Company, 2000)

• A Pokémon Victory Ring Lizardon Mega Battle Second-Place Prize Card CGC GEM MINT 10 & Original Frame (The Pokémon Company, 2014)

• A Pokémon 2005 Champion's League Promotional Winner Card CGC GEM MINT 10 & Original Frame (The Pokémon Company, 2005) Holo
