Life becomes wonderful when one wholeheartedly embraces it, flaws and all. A life that lacks imperfections would not hold the same value and meaning. Overcoming hurdles, facing everyday challenges, and enduring hardships give purpose to persevering. However, the fast-paced world has incurred severe changes in daily living, which has become more of the survival of the fittest game. As civic citizens and responsible individuals of the modern era, it is not just an expectation but a mandatory duty that we do enough for differently abled, elderly, and people with medical issues to ensure they integrate into society. And no, it does have to start with a revolution but in small steps, quite similar to what Xiaoyu Zhang has achieved through his state-of-the-art Elev Pet Feeding System.
Xiaoyu Zhang is a familiar entrant in the bright technological design field, and the Elev Pet Feeding System is not his first mega project to receive international acclaim. The recipient of the A Design Award and the Good Design Award is a project exclusively designed for people who have difficulty reaching the pet bowls on the ground. Yes! You read that correctly; such attention to detail was given to everyday problems that people with back issues, handicaps, or others, for any reason, might face. For a few, it's just an object of no use, but for a significant part of society, it's a blessing they never thought was possible.
The international recognition at the renowned award shows, the jury of which includes industry professionals from popular brands famous for their designs, including Coca-Cola, Zaha Hadid Architecture, and other prominent design firms, proves to be a monumental moment in Mr. Zhang's professional career. In addition, it was exhibited throughout the world, from the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies in Greece to Shenzhen International Industrial Design Fair in China.
Talking about the idea behind the project, Mr. Zhang provided a refreshingly honest perspective; he kept it straightforward and did not hesitate to share his opinion from a casual visit to a cat breeder. He noticed the lady was having difficulty picking up the feeding bowl. It was just when it clicked to him that today's technological world can undoubtedly develop something more efficient for people with back issues. While researching the existing models available on the market, it was revealed that there needed to be more consideration for feeders with any physical problems. There are better ideas for people living in compact spaces than feeding their pets on tables. As a result, he designed Elev, an innovative feeding system that can be installed anywhere and quickly picked up without bending. The lamp feature enhances the tool's versatility, providing people with light during the night.
For the designer, the project is more than adding another feather to his growing cap of completed work. Upon the unveiling of the final product, Mr. Zhang shared that he was f i l led with feelings of accomplishment for the idea that he was able to make into reality. The project accurately portrays and tells the story of his career as a designer and what he wants to do. When designing the project, we aimed to create for everyone, particularly those often overlooked by the mainstream market.' said Mr. Zhang about what keeps the Elev Pet Feeding System on the list of his favorite projects.
The rise of independent designers is another delightful sight, motivating many young artists to follow. In a top- notch competition with cutthroat competitors and representatives of mega multinationals, the learning opportunities are extensive, and they have a once-in- a-lifetime chance to prove their worth. More international awards must be initiated when they are open to all, unbiased, and strictly based on judging the work. Mr. Zhang's victory is not only his success but a collective celebration for all the underappreciated designers in the field who often go unnoticed.
