MADRID.- Galería Elvira González is now presenting the second solo exhibition of the American artist Pae White on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Pae White (Pasadena, California, 1963) is a multidisciplinary artist who creates large-scale installations in a variety of media: textiles, ceramic, glass, light
Her practice combines art, design, craft and architecture.
In this exhibition we delve into an unexpected use of space, where a 60 feet tapestry blends and integrates with the architecture of the gallery and combines with resplendent ceramic works. Pae White opens ways of dialogue between traditional crafts and technical production. Several works in paper clay become canvases for painting and embroidery, while her signature Open Frames suspended from the ceiling reveal transparent textiles that overlap to generate multiple hues and sometimes trap sea creatures.
Art is commitment. It should have the ability to transfix whether it be conceptually, materially, visually, politically, intellectually, viscerally, poetically, loudly, quietly
whatever. It just cant be inert.
Pae White is a multidisciplinary artist whose work embraces a variety of supports and materials, from porcelain, fluorescent lights and neon, paper, tapestries to large installations setting out in a format that can take over the space and using it as another element within the work.
Her innate curiosity for design, architecture and handcrafts have led her to a constant research of production materials and shapes focused on the permanence of daily life. Pae White connects art with leisure, an aspect which is always present in her work. One of the main aims in her work is to play with the viewers expectations who, coming up against the apparent simplicity of a daily object, is immersed in a complex plot of superimposed familiar elements, which forces a deeper reflection on the work.
