Paramjit Singh, Untitled, 2022. Oil on canvas, 42 x 60 inches.

MUMBAI.- Sakshi Gallery is presenting "One Hundred Moments Of Solitude," a solo exhibition by Paramjit Singh, from December 14, 2023 to January 6, 2024. Paramjit is exhibiting in Mumbai after 16 years!

Paramjit Singh has been India's preeminent painter of picturesque and immersive landscapes. Trained under Sailoz Mookherjea, Singh's fascination with landscapes emerged during his student days in the 1950s, evolving into a lifelong passion. His artistic journey began with a nod to Giorgio de Chirico's Metaphysical style, later transitioning into a Surrealist exploration of stones before a transformative experience in the Kangra Valley inspired his distinctive style in the 1980s.

Working swiftly without preparatory drawings, Singh layers the canvas with paint, fashioning a textured base. The palette knife is wielded with dexterity, creating multi-layered oils that appear as stippling or an accumulation of small brushstrokes. Singh's resulting luminous compositions, deliberately devoid of human figures, invite viewers to traverse without a central focal point. At 88, his artistic dialogue with each canvas, marked by enthusiasm and a commitment to freshness, exemplifies timeless integrity and formal virtuosity.

Since 1986, Sakshi Gallery has developed a strong repertoire of Indian and International artists and continues introducing and supporting emerging Indian artists.

Sakshi Gallery with a sprawling space of 3000 sq ft spread over two floors is one of the premier galleries of India and is located in the heart of Mumbai's art district in Colaba.
