FLINT, MI.- The Flint Institute of Arts has introduced a new mission statement and logo.
The new mission statement: The Flint Institute of Arts Museum + Art School connects diverse communities through fun, creative, and inspiring visual art experiences. The addition of Museum + Art School emphasizes the FIAs desire to showcase one of its greatest assets and attractions, the Art School, in both the mission statement and new logo.
The three simple squares of the FIA Museum + Art School logo represent the FIAs three primary functions, which are 1) A Museum focused on collecting and presenting art from around the globe, dating from ancient times to present day, 2) An Art School, featuring studio experiences for individuals of all ages, in the nations 3rd largest museum-affiliated school, 3) A unique venue to present transformative experiential and educational programming, as well as host fun special events.
The various elements of the logo are united in one singular triptych image, symbolizing an organization made up of several elements coming together in a cohesive whole, which is exemplified by the FIAs new branding statement: Art Brings Us Together.
The three primary colors, taken from the colored brick façade of the building,
represent: green for new beginnings, renewal, and growth; yellow for happiness,
excitement, hope, and creativity; red for strength, passion, confidence, and an assertive presence in the local, regional, national, and international art ecosystem. The typography makes use of two timeless, contemporary complementary sans serif fonts.
After completing our strategic plan, we felt it was the perfect time to look towards the future of the FIA, which includes our 100th Anniversary in 2028. We wanted to refresh our logo, but also maintain the historical essence of the FIA. We have also updated our mission statement and added a tagline that reflects all the FIA has to offer including our amazing Art School. We want the community to know that the FIA is their museum, from exhibitions to programming, special events and classes and most of all that Art Brings Us Together," said Tracee Glab, Flint Institute of Arts Executive Director.
