La Belle Epoque Auction House presents " Holiday Season Multi-Estates" live auction December 2nd

NEW YORK, NY.- "La Belle Epoque Auction House is presenting their Holiday Season Multi-Estates Auction at their stunning 7,000 square-foot space at 71 8th Avenue on the border of the Meatpacking District and the West Village in New York City. The auction, being held live in-person, begins on Saturday, December 2nd, at 11am and will also be online through LaBelleEpoque.com, LiveAuctioneers, Invaluable and Bidsquare.

In-person previews will take place on November 31st and December 1st from 11am – 5pm at La Belle Epoque 71 8Th Avenue in NYC.

Taking the spotlight at La Belle Epoque on December 2nd will be an eclectic selection of Contemporary art, an area that did extremely well at their Summer Auction in August. Continuing the trend, they are offering Contemporary and Modern Art of all kinds, while also offering a wonderful collection of Art Glass from Baccarat, Lalique and Carl Radke, along with German and French ceramics and collectable works by John Stobart and Joseph Hirsch, sterling silver articles, Christmas memorabilia from the 1930’s and collectible baseball cards from the 1950’s.

Much anticipated highlights in the art arena will include “Superman by Andy Warhol”, Superman Sketch by Andy Warhol on Arches paper, stamped on back twice with authentication by Frederick Hughes c.1989 and again in 2001 by The Estate of Andy Warhol. No additional documentation. Estimate $1,000-$100,000, and a “Memoriam to Basquiat” Attributed to Keith Haring (1958-1990). Acrylic on canvas in the style of Basquiat signed on bottom mid right 'K. Haring 89' Starting bid $500. Estimate $1,000-$100,000.

Also notable are a Green Tile by Robert Greene (American, b. 1953) Signed on back of aluminum plate. Approximate Size: 10.5" H x 8" W. Estimated at $600-800, The Homosexual Neurosis (Pink) by Hernan Bas, Revised Endpapers for The Homosexual Neurosis (pink) by Hernan Bas (1978), circa 2013. Edition of 25. Color aquatint (printed resist). Approximate size: 31½" x 47½". Hernan Bas makes paintings that are tinged with nihilist romanticism and influenced by the writings of Joris Karl-Huysmans and Oscar Wilde, Estimate $1000-$2000. Starting bid $500. Also in this sale is The Homosexual Neurosis (Blue) by Hernan Bas (1978), circa 2013. Edition of 25, Estimated at $1000-$2000. Starting bid $500 and Moonscape I by Peter Max, Original Serigraph Edition 82/150. Hand signed. c.1978. Estimated at $800-$1200.

Already getting a lot of pre-auction attention are a Betty Tompkins (b. 1945) Schmutz #3', 2013, Pencil on Paper. Hand signed bottom right. Tompkins is now recognized as a pioneering force in the development of feminist art, estimated at $500-$800 and a very rare French Vintage Bataclan Siouxsie and the Banshees poster from 1980. The only other known copy is in the MoMa permanent collection. Approximate size including frame: 48" H x 35.5" W Approximate size without frame: 42" H x 30" W. Estimated at $1500-3,000.

Others included Empire State Building (Connie Hayes c.2000), a wonderful oil on paper of the New York City skyline including the Empire State Building c.2000 by Connie Hayes (American 1982) Estimated at $1000-$2000. Also listed in this sale are two other works by Hayes, Shadow Cubes #5 and San Remo #1, and a Cab Calloway Photograph by Carl Van Vechten, inscirbed 'Photograph by Carl Van Vechten XIX b:24 January 12, 1933' on back. Estimated at $800-$1000.

Some very rare historical documents are also getting attention, including a note from President William Henry Harrison c.1795 A notation dated 21st July 1795 discussing the transfer of 9 pounds of corn and beef. William Henry Harrison (1773-1841), a American military officer and politician, was the ninth President of the United States (1841), the oldest President to be elected at the time. On his 32nd day, he became the first to die in office, serving the shortest tenure in U.S. Presidential history. Estimated at $1000-$1500, along with Plantation Stock Documents - Mississippi, c.1837, Documents dating 19th August 1837 from the Citizens Bank of Louisiana New Orleans for 120 shares of Capital Stock for Plantation on the right side of the Mississippi. Est: $1000-$1500.

Also featured is a rare set of Public Illumination Magazine Issues 1-57, an over-complete set of Public Illumination with all issues 1-57 complete with duplicated of issues 41, 42, 43, 48, 51, 52, and 54. Public Illumination began in 1979 as an underground art scene publication with a different theme every issue. Public Illumination is thought to be one of the longest running 'zines' in publication. With anonymous artist submissions, many prominent illustrators and writers adopted a moniker. One issue of note exhibits what is considered to be the first known publication of Keith Haring work. Issue 13's centerfold illustrated by Haring's moniker 'Kip Herring'. Estimated at $800-$1000.

Highlights in the Decorative items arena are an Art Deco Bronze Tile from The Century Central Park, Provenance: Ex Collection of Cornelius 'Connie' Dugan. Resident Manager of The Century, 25 Central Park West, New York City. estimated at $400-$600, and a Sotheby's Harriman Judd Collection Doulton Vase, Royal Doulton Vase by Joan Honey from the Sotheby's - The Harriman Judd Collection c.1897-1903 Estimated at $800-$1000.

After this December 2nd Holiday Season auction, La Belle Epoque Auction House will continue with seasonal auctions. In addition, La Belle Epoque Auction House will now offer pre-sale evaluations, where potential consignors and collectors can schedule an appointment to inquire about their own art, antiques, collectibles, furniture and decorative items for potential consignment, affording the focused attention one would expect in a “neighborhood” auction house.
