Milton Glaser, I Love NY logo, 1975.

PROVO, UTAH.-Brigham Young University Museum of Art presents Just Enough Is More: The Graphic Design of Milton Glaser starting on June 27 through October 7, 2006. Have you ever seen a Bob Dylan poster? Eaten Bruegger's Bagels? Visited Pennsylvania's Sesame Place educational park? Or purchased a bottle of Laurent Virgin Olive Oil? If so, you have been exposed to the innovative designs of Milton Glaser. Undoubtedly, he is best-known for his I ♥ NY logo, the most frequently copied logo design in history. The list of accomplishments for this 77-year-old New York graphic designer is astounding - everything from album covers to packaging, from posters to newspaper designs, from books to logos, from web sites to restaurant interiors, and from theme parks to calendars. As co-founder of Pushpin Studios in 1954, Glaser had a powerful impact on the course of graphic design. Pushing against the formalist ideas of Modernism, he incorporated narrative, humor, and historical references in his work. For over fifty years, his conceptual approach to solving design problems and his intelligent, articulate manner have positioned him at the forefront of the field of graphic design.

This exhibition explores the conceptual development of Glaser's work from preliminary drawings to finished designs. The approximately 150 works in this exhibition include original drawings, sketchbooks, paintings, lithographs, silk screens and mass-produced posters that will give viewers an intimate look into Glaser's design process by exploring the evolution of his designs, as well as the ways in which his use of specific conceptual elements informs his artistic conclusions.
