PARIS.- Almine Rech announced the representation of Chinese artist Ji Xin in France, Belgium and the United Kingdom.

Following his first solo show in Paris last January, the gallery will present new works at both Frieze London and Art Basel Miami Beach.

Born in 1988 in Jiangsu Province, China, Ji Xin received his BA and MA degrees in the Oil Painting Department from the China Academy of Art, and also studied in Paris as a visiting artist via an Exchange Project of CAA, in 2012. He is currently a PhD candidate at the China Academy of Art.

In Ji Xin’s work, traditional Eastern aesthetics and Western oil painting techniques are intertwined, presenting an examination of the forms and realms of traditional Chinese art, as well as a glimpse into his research of Renaissance iconography and the glazing of light and shadow.

The ambiance in his work is not based on a response to a specific history or context, but of an understanding of the world and how to be embedded in the surroundings.

Ji Xin's works are included in many renowned public and private collections, including Long Museum (China), ICA Miami (US), Deji Art Museum (China), X Museum (China), ASE Foundation (China), Xiao Museum of Contemporary Art (China), Song Museum (China), Fairyland Art Centre (China), etc.

"Ji Xin's work is a rare example of truly astonishing and beautiful creations that bridges or even fuses the tradition of Chinese painting and European painting.

There are works by Chinese artists who, influenced by Western art, have created an interesting vocabulary. In Ji Xin's work, however, it is impossible to say that his reflections are influenced by any other style because it is obviously and innately Chinese, a rich tradition coming from afar, while at the same time contemporary, reflecting an echo between East and West.
His works are highly original.

In the contemporary art context, I believe it is essential that our galley aims to reflect on and highlight this interaction between cultures that artists, such as Ji Xin, are capable of both creating and elevating."
