HAMBURG.- Art historian and curator Dr. Corinne Diserens will become head of the collection of Works on Paper/Photography after 1960 and Media at the Hamburger Kunsthalle as of 1 September 2023. She will thus be working with one of Germany’s foremost museum collections of works on paper and photography as well as with an outstanding media collection encompassing over 600 works (video, film, sound and new media) dating from 1960 to the present. Among the artists represented are Hanne Darboven, Dieter Roth, Jill Baroff, Helen Cammock, Thomas Schütte, Walid Raad/The Atlas Group, and photographers ranging from Cindy Sherman and Louise Lawler to Candida Höfer and Thomas Demand. Diserens has a deep grounding in international contemporary art and extensive experience bringing her knowledge to bear in museums, academies, universities and cultural organisations.

Dr. Corinne Diserens succeeds Dr. Petra Roettig, who is retiring after 26 years of shaping this area of the collection and who was – alongside Dr. Brigitte Kölle – head of Contemporary Art at the Hamburger Kunsthalle since 2012. In collaboration with Kölle, who is in charge of contemporary painting, sculpture, installation, video and slide works, Diserens will work on further strengthening and raising the profile of the Hamburger Kunsthalle’s Gallery of Contemporary Art.

Dr. Corinne Diserens studied art and film history in Paris, was Fellow at the Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York and then embarked on an international professional career as a curator and director. She has worked for institutions including the IVAM-Institut Valencià d’Art Modern and MACBA-Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (Spain), the Musées de Marseille and the Musée des Beaux Arts de Nantes (France), Museion in Bolzano (Italy), art academies ERG in Brussels (Belgium) and ENSAPC Paris-Cergy (France), and as jury chairwoman of the artist-in-residence programme of the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. Diserens has also made a name for herself as a freelance curator of seminal artists retrospectives and artistic director of biennials including the Sao Paulo Biennale (Brazil) and the Taipei Biennale (Taiwan).
