Michaan's September Auction offers treasures from around the world

ALAMEDA, CA.- Michaan’s September Gallery Auction is finely curated with a collection of Georgian Air Twist Glass, a grouping of Native American beaded items as well as baskets. Photography has a stunning section with star artists such as Michael Keena, O. Winston Link and Richard Misdrach. The jewelry highlights Jadeite Jade in beautiful ring, bracelet and brooch settings. The Asian Art section is Wucai jars, Meiping vase and silk embroidered robes.

The Furniture and Decoratives section of the sale leads off with a beautiful Ernest Batchelder Chest (estimate $2,000/3,000). Batchelder was a leader in the American Arts and Crafts Movement. Besides the beautiful chests he created he was also a prolific tile maker. Next up are Antique movie posters including Alexander the Great and a Six Sheet Movie Poster Panama and the Canal from an Aeroplane (estimate $4,000/7,000). Michaan’s is also featuring a Gibson Style L1 Archtop Acoustic Guitar (estimate $1,000/1,500); and an Antique Native American Plains Beaded Pipe Bag (estimate $800/1,200).

The Fine Art section this month has a wide range of mediums and artists. Our first highlighted artist is from Cuba, Rene Portocarrero, who was recognized internationally for his achievements. His oil painting “Cuba” created in 1980 (estimate $6,000/8,000) is bright and very vibrant. On the other end of the spectrum is a beautiful landscape from George Sander Bicherstaff depicting the Towers at Tower Falls in Yellowstone (estimate $600/900). Michaan’s is also featuring fine photography from Michael Kenna. “High Tide” (estimate $600/800) is one of four being offered in September.

The Jewelry Department this month is colorful with a lemon Quartz, blue Topaz, Sapphires and sparkling diamonds. There is a Sapphire, Diamond, Yellow Gold Bracelet (estimate $1,000/1,500). Also featuring a Ammolite, Yellow Gold Suite (estimate $800/1,200).

The Asian Art section is featuring two Silk Robes both from the is late Qing/Republic period. The first is a Chinese Red Ground Silk Gauze Embroidered Lady’s robe (estimate $2,000/3,000). The second robe is a Yellow Ground Embroidered Silk Lady’s Robe (estimate $1,500/2,000). There is also a Blue Glazed Tureen and Cover, bearing a Kangxi Mark (estimate $400/600).

The September Annex Auction is being held Monday, September 11th; Tuesday, September 12th ; and Wednesday, September 13th. This venue gives collectors a wide variety of jewelry, fine art, decorative arts, furniture, Asian art, stamps and coins to choose from. The auction includes over 2,500 lots, most estimated under $300.
