Objective Gallery presents "Please Sit for the Alternate Ending" by Jeff Martin and Sam Klemick

NEW YORK, NY.- Objective Gallery is thrilled to present the first duo exhibition of designers Jeff Martin and Sam Klemick with a captivating show entitled Please Sit for the Alternate Ending. The New York City exhibition will showcase each artist's distinct approach to production while offering alternative ends to materials deemed no longer of value. Drawing inspiration from the concept of an "alternate ending"—a resolution considered, produced, or written but ultimately discarded—Martin and Klemick showcase functional objects that defy conventional design practices and invite viewers to question the possibilities of what could have been.

In contemplation of what is considered "classic," the show offers a three-dimensional examination of industry practices and the utility of creativity. Using deadstock fabrics and discarded driftwood, Klemick breathes new life into materials deemed futile. The designer draws from her ancestral lineage of craftspeople to create heirlooms of the future. Martin explores life's enigmatic wonder, balancing precision and spontaneity within his practice. He works with an open curiosity to discover the 'impossible' of a material. Traditional design techniques are honored and employed while leaving room for the unexpected. Together, Martin and Klemick circumvent fate, both literally, as things could have just as easily been different, and metaphorically, in their departure from the conventional, opening doors to unexplored possibilities.

Highlights of the exhibit include: Sarcophagus Console Table and Sarcophagus 12 (a wall hanging cabinet), works by Jeff Martin, who hand-sculpts each tile out of stoneware, glaze, maple, and suede, as well as Nap Chair and Chubby Stool by Sam Klemick, handcrafted with bleached salvaged douglas fir lumber and 100% Cotton deadstock off white canvas.

“We’ve lived the golden age of TV; now it is time for the golden age of design. The alternate ending is about experimentation in approach, pointing to the possibility of change, breaking the very well-cast mold of what is deemed ‘good’ and ‘bad’ design. Jeff and Sam are two incredibly skilled designers with two very different practices. Please Sit for the Alternate Ending is about the first and last version and every single moment in between.” Chris Shao, cofounder of Objective Gallery

Jeff Martin

Jeff Martin (b. 1984, Canadian) is a contemporary sculptor and designer working across a vast array of culturally durable materials. Always approached from the mindset of an amateur, and unafraid to ask naïve questions about what a material can do, as opposed to running headlong into a well-defined and indoctrinated culture of craft boundaries. Martin’s work has been included in Collective Design Fair, the permanent collection at the Museum of Glass & the Musee des Beaux-Arts.

Sam Klemick

Studio Sam Klemick, formerly known under the moniker Otherside Objects, is an LA-based design studio driven by imagination and guided by circular methods. The studio utilizes salvaged materials and deadstock/vintage textiles. As a career knitwear and clothing designer, Klemick conceived her studio after observing the wasteful, ‘fast’ practices within the fashion industry. These insights inspired Studio Sam Klemick’s concept and mission: to reimagine and transform that which already exists.

Klemick’s work is characterized through a sense of lightness, symmetry and geometry. She comes from generations of quilters and sewers on her maternal side, her paternal grandfather worked as a carpenter.
