RUSHCUTTERS BAY.- Drawing from a deep observation and a reverential love of nature, Joshua Yeldhams art practice forms a complex interplay between narrative and myth, imagination and experience.
Fresh from his win as the People's Choice at The Salon des Refusés at S.H. Ervin Gallery for his stunning work Driftwood, Joshua Yeldham's new exhibition 'In Return', now on view at
Arthouse Gallery, features hand-carved photography and ceramics.
Yeldham's unique photographic work is a testament to his innovative approach and his unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. Through his intricate mark making, which he masterfully carves into the surface of the photograph, Yeldham brings forth a transformative evolution of the photographic medium that stands as a distinctive and unprecedented contribution to contemporary art.
Interweaving cane and string that marks the interconnectedness of all things, the work inspires a deep contemplation and meditation from those in their presence; to be still with the universe in its moments of quietness.
In December 2023 Yeldhams unique hand-carved photographic practice will be highlighted in the National Gallery of Victoria Triennial exhibition. The NGV has acquired Resonance (8 in a series of 9) for their permanent collection. The work features embellishments of acrylic paint, cane, wood and string.
"The Triennial series signifies one of the most ambitious and exciting projects ever embarked on by the NGV. Triennial 2017 and Triennial 2020 challenged, confronted, and inspired us to see the world differently through the lens of artists and designers in the contemporary, art, design and architectural space from around the globe. Exploring current issues through ground-breaking works narrated by contemporary artists and designers, Triennial 2023 will challenge visitors to think differently." Tony Ellwood AM, Director National Gallery of Victoria
