Field Museum Elects New Board Members
W. James McNerney, Jr.

CHICAGO.- The Field Museum announced that its Board of Trustees elected two new trustees to three-year terms at its meeting yesterday. The new board members are: John R. Anderson, Senior Partner of Anderson Enterprises, a holding company, and Spring Creek Partners, a venture capital firm with offices in Rockford, Ill.; W. James McNerney, Jr., Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Boeing Company.

Over his 40-year career, Anderson has served as chief executive of diverse industrial operations whose core was a packaging services company he founded after his graduation from the University of Wisconsin. Diversifying his industrial holdings in recent years, he continues venture capital investment activities as principal in Spring Creek Partners.

Recognized for his support and involvement in civic, conservation and cultural organizations, he is best known for Anderson Japanese Gardens, a public botanical park in Rockford recently named the number one Japanese garden in North America by the Journal of Japanese Gardening.

"Addressing issues that impact the quality of life of the people of our country and world has been a life long passion," Anderson said. "Serving as a trustee of The Field Museum board will afford me even a bigger opportunity to do so."

Before accepting his position at Boeing in June 2005, McNerney was CEO of 3M Company from 2001 to 2005. In the late 1990s, he held top executive positions at General Electric Company. He is a member of the boards of Northwestern University and The Procter and Gamble Company, as well as a former board member of the Greater Twin Cities United Way.

"The Field Museum is one of Chicago's premiere cultural institutions and a world-class center for the exploration of natural history," McNerney said. "Boeing has been a contributor to the Museum, and I am pleased to add to that support in this way. The Museum has a history of promoting scientific literacy and encouraging reflection and discussion on important civic issues -- two areas that we prize as a company, both in the work we do and the community projects and programs we support."

Miles D. White, Chairman, Board of Trustees of The Field Museum and Chairman and CEO of Abbott Laboratories, said, "We are delighted to have two such active leaders join our board. They have many skills that they will be able to contribute to the Museum's mission."
