Michaan's August auction offers big names and beautiful pieces

ALAMEDA, CA.- Michaan’s August Gallery Auction features many great names like Georg Jensen, Olga Fisch, Swarovski, Don Kingman, and Ansel Adams just to name a few. The jewelry sparkles with diamonds, pink sapphires, and emeralds. The Asian Art section is looking sharp featuring Cloisonne, Samurai Wakizashi swords, buddhas, and famille rose porcelains.

The Furniture and Decoratives section of the sale leads off with a four-piece Georg Jensen Sterling Silver Tea and Coffee Set (estimate $1,200/1,800). Next is a Lucien Lelong Sleeveless Dance Dress (estimate $400/600). This amazing piece was deaccessioned from the Monterey History & Art Association. They have deaccessioned over 1000 lots to Michaan’s and all proceeds benefit the guarding force in preserving Monterey’s history since 1931. We are also featuring a Camel Hair Runner (estimate $1,200/1,800) and an Olga Fisch Modern Wool Pile Folklore Rug (estimate $700/1,000).

The Fine Art section this month is strong with American Artists. Ansel Adams starts us off with “Coast Near Timber Cove.” This is a gelatin silver print mounted on board (estimate $4,000/6,000). A familiar favorite is Dong Kingman with a water color of a fishing scene in San Francisco (estimate $2,000/4,000). Michaan’s is also offering an oil on canvas, “Salisbury Cathedral” by Stan Painter (estimate $1,000/1,500) and a very unique Chess Set, “Law and Order” created by Doug Anderson (estimate $2,000/3,000).

The Jewelry Department this month is colorful with a Pink Sapphire, Diamond, 14k Yellow Gold Ring (estimate $800/1,200) . Along with a collection of three Diamond, Sapphire, Emerald Yellow Gold Bracelets (estimate $1,500/2,500). There are Diamond Rings and a Diamond, Platinum Top , 14k White Gold Brooch (estimate $1,500/2,500). Also featuring a beautifully carved Mutton Fat Jade, 14k Yellow Gold Dragon Jewelry Suite (estimate $600/800).

The Asian Art section offers a Monumental Cloisonne Jar flanked by a pair of birds on the shoulders (estimate $500/800). Two Japanese Samurai Wakezashi Lacquer Swords (estimate $800/1,200). A beautiful Chinese Huangluali and Mixed Wood Sichertore Official Arm Chair (estimate $800/1,200). There is also a Sino-Chena Gilt Bronze Seated Buddha Statue that is fining cast. The buddha Shakyamuni is seated on a double lotus pedestal (estimate $800/1200).

The August Annex Auction is being held Monday, August 14th; Tuesday, August 15th ; and Wednesday, August 16th. This venue gives collectors a wide variety of jewelry, fine art, decorative arts, furniture, Asian art, stamps and coins to choose from. The auction includes over 2,500 lots, most estimated under $300.
