TURIN.- Intesa Sanpaolo will soon be opening the exhibition Mimmo Jodice. Senza Tempo, on view from 29 June 2023 to 7 January 2024 at
Gallerie dItalia, Turin. Masterpieces by one of the most important contemporary Italian photographers are presented with a new documentary on Jodices life, directed by the award-winning Mario Martone, which will premiere at the exhibition.
Curated by Roberto Koch, founder of the Italian book publisher and photography agency Contrasto, Mimmo Jodice. Senza Tempo offers an evocative opportunity to take a journey across Mediterranean landscapes and histories; to become mesmerised by the play of light of Jodices black and white photographs.
In the stunning Palazzo Turinetti di Pertengo in Turin, Jodices famous series Vedute di Napoli, his photographs of coastlines in France, Spain and Greece, his series of portraits of natural elements, and his views of urban landscapes will be on view along with his earliest works from the 1960's.
Mimmo Jodice's work spans a diverse range of subjects, for the focus of his practice has not been simply the documentation of reality. Self-taught, Jodice experimented with a wide variety of techniques, materials and methods of processing photographs, approaching the camera and his own practice as a place for an intimate investigation.
Mimmo Jodice. Senza Tempo represents the second chapter of La Grande Fotografia Italiana, a project that offers an opportunity to explore the work of several of Italys greatest photographers of the 20th century; the first was an exhibition of works by Lisetta Carmi held at Gallerie dItalia, Turin, in 2022.
Accompanying the exhibition, #INSIDE, a public programme of free events will start from October 2023 and will take place every Wednesday at 6:30pm. The events are free and open to all.
The exhibition catalogue is produced by Edizioni Gallerie d'Italia | Skira.
