DETROIT, MI.- The Detroit Institute of Arts announced the appointment of Robin Groesbeck as the new Director of Interpretive Engagement. With an impressive career spanning over 20 years in the museum industry, Robin brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to fostering meaningful connections between art and diverse audiences.

In her new role at the DIA, Groesbeck will lead the museum’s Interpretation Department in its efforts to make the DIA's collections and exhibitions accessible to non-specialist audiences, ensuring inclusivity, relevance, and thoughtfulness.

“Robin’s arrival comes at an exciting time as the museum embarks on the reinstallation of its contemporary galleries and lays the groundwork for a reinstallation of the Native American galleries,” said Anthony Smith, Vice President of Learning and Audience Engagement at the DIA.

Before joining the DIA, Robin served as the Director of Exhibitions & Interpretation at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas for the past eight years. She has also held significant roles, including Senior Director of Exhibits & Design at the California Academy of Sciences and Deputy Director for Art & Programs at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. Her tenure as the Director of Exhibitions at The Field Museum in Chicago further exemplifies her dedication to enhancing museum experiences.

"The DIA holds special significance for me as a leading institution in guest engagement,” said Robin Groesbeck, “I'm truly excited to join the team and connect with Detroit's incredible communities."

Robin's educational background includes studying painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and earning Bachelor of Arts degrees in Studio Art and Modern Society & Social Thought from the University of California, Santa Cruz. Her involvement in the museum community extends beyond her professional endeavors, as she served as a former board member of the California Association of Museums and co-chaired its Multi-cultural and Emerging Professionals committee.
