NEW YORK, NY.- From the 3rd of June to the 2nd of July, Marc Jancou Contemporary presents the first solo show of Marta Naturale in Switzerland, which follows her exhibition Portfolio at the Museo di Roma, Palazzo Braschi as part of the 2023 Quadriennale of Rome.

Drawing on her everyday surroundings and the spaces she encounters daily, the artist presents a series of new paintings and drawings of silent, domestic interiors devoid of human presence.

Zooming in on specific aspects of rooms and interior fittings and furnishings, Naturale’s images are reminiscent of cropped film stills, characterised by a sense of interiority and containment. The world beyond is also present, albeit tenuously, on the other side of thresholds, usually doors and windows, peering in through the curtains and shutters, and conditioning the experience of the space within, softening the almost palpable darkness.

Since opening his first gallery in 1991, Marc Jancou has supported numerous contemporary art projects and artists at various stages in their careers. Through residency programs, solo exhibitions, gallery publications, and collaborations with creative organizations and institutions, he has been a key proponent in the development of both established and emerging artists alike.

Marta Naturale is an Italian artist who was born in 1990. Numerous key galleries and museums such as ICA Milano have featured Marta Naturale's work in the past. Marta Naturale investigates, through the pictorial medium, the places populated by mankind which bear the signs of its passage, and therefore are places full of meanings and contradictions strictly bounded to human nature. She is attracted by images coming from daily routine, charged with memories and emotions related to life experience. Some of them emerge and strongly impose themselves on our perception, revealing a further meaning. Starting from these images, the artistic practice of Marta Naturale generates a work full of visual sedimentations of both biographical and collective nature, which she tries to make permanent through the pictorial matter. The attempt of her painting is to fix on the surface the unique peculiarity of each moment and its elusive sense of ulteriority.

The Rome Quadriennale (Italian: Quadriennale di Roma, also called in English the Rome Quadrennial) is a foundation for the promotion of contemporary Italian art. Its name derives from the four-yearly exhibitions it is required to host by its constitution. It is based in Rome in the monumental complex of Villa Carpegna.
