Tips For Maintaining Healthy Fertility

Adopting a healthy lifestyle improves the quality of a person’s life and sometimes resolves stubborn health problems. Taking up healthy habits for a fertile future is one way of seeking non-medical interventions for those trying to conceive. The habits could already be part of life, but focusing more on them could be the game changer in boosting fertility.

Why Infertility Strikes

One approach when adopting lifestyle choices is identifying the issues negatively impacting fertility and addressing them. Some culprits that diminish fertility levels and increase the likelihood of its occurrence include drinking alcohol, using tobacco, and narcotics, being overweight or underweight, age, stress, and lack of exercise.

Underlying health issues, especially those of the reproductive system, like endometriosis, poor quality of the eggs, uterine fibroids, cervical incompetence, and thyroid disease, affect women.

For men, low or no sperm count, poorly formed sperm, mumps, and excessively thick semen are some causes of infertility. Some diseases like gonorrhoea and chlamydia, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and treatments like chemotherapy and radiation contribute to the problem for both genders.

Staying Healthy and Protecting Fertility

Infertility manifests as a failure to conceive or as miscarriages. Adopting healthy habits improves overall health and eventually resolves some causes of infertility. Below are various ways you can stay healthy and improve your fertility.

Adopt a healthy sleep schedule.

Claiming to be a night owl does not change the fact that insufficient sleep directly impacts productivity and fertility. Irregular sleep patterns could lead to obesity, ovulation problems, and poor sperm health.

Good sleep starts from daily activity, where physical activities and daylight exposure should cause adequate exhaustion to induce sleep at night. The bedroom should be calming and clean for relaxation. Have a bedtime routine and a sleep-and-wake schedule. Avoid stimulants such as caffeine and remove electronics like phones, TVs, and laptops at this time from the bedroom.

One should take a light meal some hours before bedtime. Sleep disorders could result from other issues like medications, heart and lung disease, and psychological disturbances. So, one should seek medical attention if the problem persists.

Exercise
Exercise improves the functioning of the lungs, heart, and immune system and reduces obesity. Moderate exercise lasting between 30 minutes to an hour daily helps fertility. Too much vigorous exercise can have the opposite effect, leading to a lack of ovulation.

Walking fast, aerobics, lawn mowing, and cycling on a level terrain are some moderate exercises recommended as healthy habits. The point is to avoid dormancy by incorporating more movement into daily activities.

Avoid smoking and alcohol.

Not only does smoking lower sperm count, but it contributes to ectopic pregnancy and makes in vitro fertilisation difficult. Second-hand smoke endangers pregnancy leading to stillbirths, miscarriages, and ectopic pregnancy.

Smoking can turn into an addiction. Therapies that support a person to quit smoking, like individual and peer behavioural support and nicotine replacement therapy, can help.

It is wise to reduce alcohol consumption by avoiding it or drinking in moderation. These measures work best when adopted before conception.

Avoid and eliminate toxins.

Exposure to environmental pollutants such as pesticides, fumes, and chemical solvents does not bode well for anyone wishing to improve fertility. The human body accumulates toxins from other sources, including food, water, and skin contact with such substances over time. They cause inflammation and malfunction of cells and organs, leading to infertility.

There are a variety of detoxing therapies that flush those toxins out of the body. Consuming fruits and vegetables and plenty of clean water is one type of detoxing regimen. Another, tailored explicitly for reproductive health, is the fertility cleanse taken by women of reproductive age.

This fertility cleanse is a group of special herbs, often herbal fertility teas. The cleanse addresses fertility issues, such as poor sleep, weight problems, uterine and ovular health, stress management, and menstrual problems, boosting fertility.

Adopt a fertility diet.

A healthy diet has antioxidants such as cooked and raw vegetables, fruits, and unsaturated fats. Whole grains, legumes, omega-3-rich foods, olive oil, and fewer animal proteins are some considerations for healthy eating.

Junk foods, irregular eating patterns, and unhealthy portions are drawbacks to achieving fertility goals. BMI is another guide when adopting a fertility diet. The diet should extend into prenatal health management so the mother can carry the pregnancy to full term.

Healthy Choices Make Healthy Habits for Fertility

Optimum fertility levels are an indicator of a healthy lifestyle. Avoiding stress by getting adequate sleep and managing daily activities is good. Managing body weight and detoxifying are other alternatives. However, these habits do not mitigate the need to seek professional help to protect and boost fertility.
