CARING FOR YOUR POOL IN WINTER

Wintertime is wonderful for many outdoor activities. Even if your area has cold winters, your swimming pool can be a great place to enjoy the outdoors. However, if you don’t plan to use it, you can take some simple steps to ensure that your pool is in good condition over the winter months and ready to use when spring returns.

So, as you get ready for cooler weather, remember to prepare your pool for winter with these simple steps.

Make sure your water is clean and clear.
• Clean your pool filter. A dirty pool filter slows the flow of water through your system, which means it’s not cleaning as well as it should be. This effect can lead to algae growth and cloudy water in your pool.
• Use a swimming pool vacuum to clean the walls and floor of dirt and debris.
• Add an algaecide treatment once per week throughout the season (and make sure you’re using one explicitly designed for pools). Algae will begin growing on top of existing algae if not treated regularly with this product!
• Experts also recommend shock treatment every 3-4 weeks throughout winter months; these products help remove bacteria from inside pipes while also killing off any remaining germs left behind after you perform general cleaning in the initial stages of the process.

Maintain the chemical balance of your pool.

Maintaining the chemical balance of your pool is an integral part of caring for it.

First, you must regularly test the pH, chlorine and alkalinity levels to ensure they’re within their ideal ranges. Keep an eye on pH levels and chlorine levels throughout the season so they don’t become too high or low; any imbalance can cause problems with algae growth later in the year if not appropriately managed. Testing kits are available at most pool supply stores and require only a small water sample to get an accurate reading.

If you find that your pool’s chemical balance is out of whack, consult a professional about how best to fix it before taking any steps yourself – you could end up doing more harm than good!

Sand and vacuum the bottom of your pool.

When caring for your pool in winter, keeping the bottom of your pool clean is crucial. If you have an above-ground vinyl liner system, you should be able to do this using a garden hose attachment. However, if you have an inground concrete liner, hiring someone with experience working with concrete materials may be best. This caveat accounts for the need to prevent potential equipment damage due to inexperience.

Keep a cover on your pool when not in use.

It’s essential to keep your swimming pool covered when not in use. A good cover will:
• Keep water warm
• Keep debris out of your pool
• Keep your pool safe from children or animals who might be tempted to jump in while no one is around
• Prevent heat loss through evaporation

If you have a heater, make sure it’s ready to go.

If you have a pool heater, make sure it’s ready to go. Ensure the heater is in good working order and clean. Check that the pool is level, clean and clear of debris and has a chemical balance to protect against algae growth during winter.

By taking some simple steps to prepare your pool for winter, you can ensure it will be ready to go when spring arrives. However, remember that many factors are involved in caring for your pool, so make sure you keep up with maintenance throughout the year as well!
