ROTTERDAM.- Since 2 April to 25 June,
BRUTUS, the Rotterdam artist-driven playground, presents the most sensitive and uncomfortable exhibition to date: Through Bone and Marrow. On an area of approximately 6000 m2, twenty renowned artists show new and alternative connections between mankind, nature and technology. Through Bone and Marrow acts as a subtle wake-up call: the exhibition showcases a new aesthetic with room for discomfort, imperfection and the beauty of decay. Curator is 'atmosphere collector' and stylist Maarten Spruyt. In search of a representation of the zeitgeist, he succeeds in creating unity in diversity.
Through Bone and Marrow feels like a single large organism. Visitors are admitted to the exhibition circuit one at a time and are given heartfelt advice: forget your phone, forget your agenda, experience the space with all your senses. The exhibition will tickle your nerves, crawl into your bones, stimulate your eyes, prick your ears and leave you running after your nose.
Maarten Spruyt: "Art can put the finger on the sore spot, and also give an insight to the future: a portal to a new aesthetic. The raw environment of BRUTUS completes my idea of the right atmosphere for this. A place where you can wander around by yourself and let the sensitivity and discomfort of the exhibition catch you."
This exhibition features works by the following artists:
Zimoun, Maarten Vanden Eynde, Frank Bruggeman, Mirte van Laarhoven, Atelier Van Lieshout, Nick Ervinck, Jan Hüskes, Joris Strijbos, Ossip, Nick van Woert, Maartje Korstanje, Vladimir Zbynovsky, Jan Eric Visser, Nacho Carbonell, Ernest Bessems, Hedwich Rooks, Zhao Zhou, Quintus Glerum and Amrith de Zoete. Dyane Donck Company provided several sound compositions.

BRUTUS Artist-driven Playground
BRUTUS is the largest contemporary art exhibition space in the Netherlands. As an artist-driven playground, the foundation offers artists time, space, freedom and funds to experiment, to perform and to exhibit at a massive scale. A place to dream big and build even bigger.
BRUTUS has sprouted out of AVL Mundo, the non-profit organization founded in 2008 by Joep van Lieshout. With AVL Mundo, the dream could be realized to offer artists unique opportunities to develop and exhibit projects without traditional boundaries. BRUTUS also realizes an ambitious cultural program with collaborations with many different partners like MOMO Fabrique, O. Festival for Opera. Music. Theatre. and Roffa Mon Amour.
In its former industrial complex (6000 m2) at Keileweg, BRUTUS includes several exhibition spaces, an artist-in-residency, the BRUTUS Garden (with work byAtelier Van Lieshout) and grants the BRUTUS Prize.
