BOSTON, MASS.- Bonhams Skinner will present a strong slate of sales in March which span a diverse range of collecting categories including rare textiles, militaria, jewelry, and Modern & Contemporary art. The month will begin with Rare Textiles featuring the Chet Gadsby collection and examples of textiles from across the globe. Followed by the sale of Important American Military Arms from the Steve Andrews Collection, which includes an impressive selection of rare and historic arms spanning the early federal era through the Civil War. Fine Jewelry and Watches will then present over 300 lots of antique, period, estate, and contemporary jewelry. European Art will feature a curated selection of 17th, 18th, and 19th century works highlighted by a large-scale painting, The Attack, by Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski. Lastly, the Modern & Contemporary Art sale will be highlighted by Window Box, an Alexander Calder painting, and a trio of Walasse Ting paintings.
Rare Textiles
March 1
On March 1, Bonhams Skinner will host its first auction dedicated solely to rare textiles. The sale, Rare Textiles, will feature the Chet Gadsby collection, a selection of antique Indian and European paisley shawls defined by vibrant colors and refined designs. The collection is highlighted by a Kashmir Square Shawl (India) and a Kashmir "Four Seasons" Shawl (India), each estimated at $600 - 800. Additionally, the sale will present examples of textiles from across the globe including Medieval and Renaissance embroideries, colorful Swedish Rolakans, and finely woven Indonesian ikats. Exceptional and early pieces from Spain, North Africa, and several American textiles round out the auction.
Important American Military Arms from the Steve Andrews Collection
March 2
Bonhams Skinner will present Important American Military Arms from the Steve Andrews Collection, Part I on March 2. The important collection features an impressive selection of rare and historic arms spanning the early federal era through the Civil War with provenance to noted collectors such as William Guthman, David A. Stewart, and William M. Reid. Highlights include a late 18th century signed Jeremiah Snow Horseman's saber with the original scabbard, estimated at $10,000 - 15,000, a 1798 Buell & Greenleaf Contract Cavalry saber, estimated at $2,000 - 3,000, as well as 1794 and 1798 contract muskets. Additionally, the collection is especially strong in 1797 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Contract muskets featuring eight examples including one regimentally marked piece, estimated at $3,000 - 4,000. Rounding out the sale is a selection of U.S. Model 1833 Dragoon sabers including a fine enlisted man's example for the Republic of Texas, estimated at $12,000 - 18,000.
Fine Jewelry & Watches

Fine Jewelry and Watches, from March 5 - 15, is composed of over 300 lots of antique, period, estate, and contemporary jewelry, all estimated under $10,000, as well as a small collection of watches. A highlight of the sale is a Rolex 18kt Gold Datejust Wristwatch with diamonds around the face, estimated at $6,000 - 8,000. Also featured is a selection of brooches including an early silver, amber, and malachite Georg Jensen brooch, estimated at $2,000 - 3,000, and an antique gold and diamond brooch, estimated at $1,500 - 2,000. Additionally of note is an Art Deco platinum, opal, and diamond pendant, estimated at $4,000 - 6,000.
European Art

From March 6 - 16, Bonhams Skinner will present European Art, a curated selection of 17th, 18th, and 19th century works including portraits, landscapes, and Old Master drawings. The sale is highlighted by The Attack, a large and exciting painting of a troika sleigh at full gallop while men frantically fend off an attacking wolf, by Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski (Polish, 1849-1915), estimated at $75,000 - 95,000. Additional highlights include Laughing Girl by Raffaello Sorbi (Italian, 1844-1931), a Florentine painter known for capturing small details of everyday life with both accuracy and humor, estimated at $7,000 - 9,000, and Still life with Artists Tools and Vase of Roses by Jean Dufy (French, 1888-1964), known for his colorful depictions of post-war Parisian society, estimated at $2,500 - 5,500.
Modern & Contemporary Art
March 15
Bonhams Skinner will present an additional Fine Art sale, Modern & Contemporary Art, on March 15. Highlighting the sale is a painting, Window Box, by Alexander Calder (American, 1898-1976), best known for his innovative wire sculptures and mobiles, estimated at $40,000 - 60,000. Also of particular note are a trio of paintings by Walasse Ting (1929-2010), a Chinese-American artist known for his fluorescent colored paintings; I Think of You, estimated at $40,000 - 60,000, Two Women, estimated at $35,000 - 55,000, and Resting Cat, estimated at $10,000 - 15,000. A painted steel sculpture estimated at $7,000 - 9,000, Viaduct 6 by David Hayes (American, 1931-2013), known for his signature style of transforming steel into large-scale artworks with curvilinear forms, is an additional highlight of the sale.
