TEMPE, ARIZONA.-The Arizona State University Art Museum will hold the 10th Annual Arizona State University Art Museum Short Film and Video Festival Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 8:00pm. Entries will be accepted throughout the year and it is open to film and videomakers worldwide. This year the festival will be very informal, as previously. It will again be held outdoors and FREE to anyone who wishes to attend. There will be no entry fee for submitting films/videos and no messy applications to fill out. Read below to see how easy it is to enter your work. Here are some very loose guidelines:

The ASUAM is looking for Short Films and Videos: Projects should be no longer than 10 minutes in length. We will accept work up to twelve minutes in length, but if you haven't hooked us by the first 10 minutes, that's all the jurors will watch. It's a short film and video festival for a reason. Student Film/Videos are a plus: Since we are on a university campus, we love this stuff.

Presentatio of the Film/Videos: All film/videos will be presented in VHS format, projected with a SONY projection system, hooked up to a sweet sounding stereo. They are projected on a 12'x12' screen that is mounted on an exterior portion of the museum's back plaza area. The system works very well and the projections and sound come out very clean. Sorry to all those hardcore film fans, we know that the quality suffers in VHS format, but we have no budget and have to rely on equipment that the museum has on hand.

Note: We prefer film/videos in VHS 'NTSC' format (standard U.S. format). If your film is in VHS 'PAL' or 'SECAM', please click here for further information.

WE ARE UNABLE TO PRESENT FILM/VIDEOS THAT CHARGE A FEE FOR VIEWING: We offer in return - presentation of your film/video to a large audience, listing in the program, inclusion on our webpage, and any publicity we can muster up for the event. Selected film/videomakers will also receive copies of the program and all press that is released on the festival.d

THE EVENT WILL BE JURIED, HERE IS HOW: Just send a copy of your film/video in VHS 'NTSC' (see note above in presentation section regarding PAL or SECAM formats) format to the ASU Art Museum (this is the copy that will be screened if chosen, so make it a good copy) with a brief description of the film that can be used for the web (if it has won any awards, where it has been screened previously, running time, etc...) and your contact information. There is no entry fee and we don't take bribes, so please keep your money to produce more great work. John Spiak, Bob Pece and a gueat juror will be making the selections for this year's festival. If chosen for the festival, you will be asked to provide a still image from your entry in either slide, photograph or digital format (.jpg) for the webpage and publicity purposes. If selected you also give the Arizona State Univesity Art Museum the right to make copies of your project for promotional purposes. Each promotional tape will include the following text on the outside: "Copyright held by ASU Art Museum and individual artists." Tapes that are chosen for the festival will be kept by the ASU Art Museum. Tapes not selected will be kept by the museum unless a Self Addressed Stamped Package is included with the entry for the tapes return. We are planning a library viewing lounge where individuals will be able to view past entries at their leisure. The tapes will be treated as reference and will not leave the museum. A way for us to better protect the copyrights of the artists.

Note: If Bob likes your work he may include it in one of his Southern California Festivals. This has been the case for many of the film and videomakers from past festivals.

AWARDS TO BE WON: The night of the festival the audience is asked to vote for their favorite film or video with a ballot they receive on their program. Votes are counted that night and the next day we announce that years "LeBlanc Audience Choice Award." The "LeBlanc Audience Choice Award" is dedicated to former ASU Art Museum Security Officer Steve LeBlanc, whose life was taken from us tragically just prior to the 1998 festival. He was a great friend to everyone and a major reason the festival was a big success in its first year. Everyone loved Steve and that is why we found it appropriate to dedicate this award to his memory.

Three "Juror Choice Awards" will be given to projects that have been juried into the festival. They are selected prior to the festival by the jurors.

Last, but not least, is the "AZ Award", which recognize an outstanding film or video artist living in the state of Arizona. The award will be selected by the jurors.

Sorry, we are a low budget affair so the awards are in name only, NO MONEY.

NO MESSY PAPER WORK, IT'S EASY TO SUBMIT: Yes! It's FREE and as easy as it sounds. Just send your VHS copy along with a brief description of the work. Make sure to include your contact information with e-mail address if you have one. If you wish for the tapes return or to be notified of the tapes safe arrival, please include a self-addressed stamped package for the tape or a stamped postcard for notification. Tapes without SASE will be retained by the museum (see above regarding our library lounge). Tapes selected for the festival will not be returned and will become part of the festival library.

INCLUDE ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBERS: This may sound obvious, but year in and year out we get entries with no contact information. So please include with your entry a mailing address, phone number and e-mail address if you have one. Makes our life much easier.
