COPENHAGEN, DENMARK.-Statens Museum for Kunst will present Rembrandt? The Master and his Workshop, from 4 February - 14 May, 2006. The 400th anniversary of the birth of Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-69) is celebrated with a large-scale exhibition about one of the greatest painters ever. The exhibition is the first of its kind in Denmark to show such an extensive array of paintings and graphic art as well as a selection of drawings by the Dutch master. Sporting remarkable paintings loaned by other collections supplemented by the museum's own fine collection of graphic art, the exhibition spans the artist's entire life's work. Rembrandt's impact on contemporary Dutch art is placed in perspective by works by his students and the artists belonging to his circle. Rembrandt had an unmatched gift for depicting human beings, and such images dominate the exhibition. The exhibition also unveils the results of recent studies of the museum collections. In co-operation with international experts, the SMK has researched the authenticity of the works previously attributed to Rembrandt. Who painted them? Do their ranks include works by the master himself after all? The exhibition is created in co-operation with a range of the leading museums of the world.
