CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS.-An extraordinary exhibition opens today, Friday, October 21 at Krannert Art Museum – an exhibition of glass sculptures in breathtakingly brilliant colors and unique forms. Live music at the public reception will be provided by the Indianapolis-based Mariachi Band Zelaya. “Eye, Form, Symbol” highlights contemporary glass sculptures owned by local collectors Jon and Judith Liebman. The Liebmans routinely travel throughout the United States and internationally to glass galleries and artists’ studios to build their collection.

The exhibition features a wide variety of outstanding pieces that attract the eye with radiant surfaces of jewel-like appeal, emphasize bold sculptural forms, and captivate the imagination with symbolic meaning.

The exhibition, curated by Michael W. Conner, profiles an international roster of more than twenty-five renowned glass artists such as William Carlson, David Huchthausen, Jon Kuhn, Stanislav Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtova, Dante Marioni, William Morris, Paul Stankard, Howard Ben Tre, Bertil Vallien, Frantisek Vizner, Janusz Walentynowicz, and Ann Wolff. The artists’ techniques for handling this ancient medium result in contemporary sculptures of unprecedented brilliance and tremendous breadth of artistic expression.
