NEW YORK.- Hindman announces Gemma Sudlow has joined the firm as Managing Director, New York region, in a new role focused on launching the firm’s first full-service Manhattan saleroom. A star auctioneer with 17 years of business development and specialist expertise, Ms. Sudlow leads a growing team of Hindman specialists in New York, including a Business Development Director as well as seasoned experts in the key categories of Post-War & Contemporary Art, Photographs, Jewelry & Watches, Books & Manuscripts and Furniture & Decorative Arts.

The launch of Hindman New York demonstrates the firm’s commitment to fulfilling growing demand within the tri-state region for a complete offering of trusted services, including appraisals, auctions and private sales. With the recent addition of new offices in Boston and Miami, plus a new full-service auction room and exhibition space planned for Manhattan, Hindman is now present in 16 cities across the country focused on the mainstay of the auction market: core collectible property at a range of estimates.

“Gemma Sudlow is a highly respected figure in the auction industry who shares our vision to further Hindman’s reach across the US, and establish a vibrant new presence in the Northeast region,” commented Jay Krehbiel, Hindman Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Following a year full of milestones, both financially and in terms of the collections we’ve had the privilege to offer, I’m looking forward to partnering with Gemma and the team to build upon Hindman’s existing network of collectors, advisors and public institutions in the art market capital of the world.”

Sudlow comes to Hindman from Christie’s, where she oversaw the firm’s private collections and decorative arts division in New York and was one of their leading auctioneers. Among the numerous world auction records achieved under her gavel, she is one of the few auctioneers in the world to have sold an individual work of art for more than US$90 million. Sudlow brings strong expertise in market strategy and project management, having delivered complex, multi-category collections to market on behalf of major collectors and family estates in both the United States and United Kingdom.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Hindman at this unprecedented time of growth and to work with such an experienced team of experts and business development professionals. Hindman recorded its strongest-ever first-half performance in 2022, with industry-leading sell-through rates of 89% across categories,” said Sudlow. “Hindman is an innovative auction house equipped to service North America’s auction needs and I’m excited to build upon their existing success in the epicenter of the US auction market: New York.”

Recently announced appointments at Hindman include Madalina Lazen, Director and Senior Specialist of European Art, based in Palm Beach and Laura Paterson, Director and Senior Specialist of Photographs, who joins Sudlow in the firm’s growing New York regional office. Further details of the new auction room location will be announced in early 2023.

Hindman is a leading fine art auction house connecting cities nationwide to the global art market. With offices and salerooms throughout the country, Hindman conducts over 140 auctions annually in all major fine art and luxury collecting categories, while offering buyers and sellers an exceptional experience across multiple selling channels and price points.
