ANTWERP.- Art Brussels launches the second edition of
Art Antwerp, with 68 participants from 11 different countries presenting 12 solo and 8 duo shows, as well as a mix of almost 300 newly emerging and established artists. With a strong international programme, 15 of these 68 galleries are based in Antwerp, and half of the galleries come from abroad, keeping the DNA of the fair international as well as strongly locally rooted. Art Antwerp is set to be an ambitious small-sized contemporary art fair and a new major player in the city of Antwerp known for its creativity and avant- gardism.
Art Antwerp is proud to announce that the fair can count on the collaboration with two new main partners, Delen Private Bank and Bank Van Breda. Both banking institutions will also jointly act as main sponsors of Art Brussels.
Participating galleries are invited by the hosting committee based on the gallery's profile. This year again there will be no sections – on the floor plan you will discover younger galleries next to more established ones. The smaller scale of the fair allows for a larger and clearer overview of the participating galleries and contributes to a welcoming and intimate atmosphere. Organised by the Art Brussels team, the standards of the fair are guaranteed to be of high quality.
This second edition of Art Antwerp attracts again strong international established galleries including Galerie Lange + Pult (Zurich, Auvernier) presenting works by artists Philippe Decrauzat, Natacha Donzé, Sylvie Fleury, Olivier Mosset and Till Rabus; Galerie Lelong & Co. (Paris, New York) featuring artists including Pierre Alechinsky, Ficre Ghebreyesus, Christine Safa, Barthélémy Toguo, Fabienne Verdier and Jan Voss; Laurent Godin (Paris) bringing works by, among others, Peter Buggenhout, Sven 't Jolle, and Paul Czertlitzki; Althuis Hofland Fine Arts (Amsterdam) presenting a solo exhibition of the work of Yuri Rodekin; Thomas Brambilla (Bergamo) will bring works by established artists Lynda Benglis, Maggi Hambling, Jack Pierson, John Torreano, Klaus Rinke; Galerie Claire Gastaud (Clermont-Ferrand, Paris) proposes a group show with a selection of its artists; Sébastien Bertrand (Geneva) showing three young artists, Aks Misyuta, Michael Hilsman, Todd Bienvenu; Dürst Britt & Mayhew (The Hague) proposes a solo show by Puck Verkade who is currently participating in the 16th Biennale de Lyon; MARUANI MERCIER (Brussels, Knokke, Zaventem) with artists such as Francesco Clemente, Jaclyn Conley, Peter Halley and Arne Quinze; Ruttkowski;68 (Cologne, Paris, Düsseldorf) showing Carlotta Bailly-Borg, Antwan Horfee, Robert Janitz and Frédéric Platéus; Nino Mier (Brussels, Cologne, Los Angeles, Marfa) will do a solo presentation by artist Thomas Wachholz; Nosbaum Reding (Brussels, Luxembourg) featuring artists such as Tina Gillen, Sophie Ullrich, Barthélémy Toguo; Galerie Ron Mandos (Amsterdam) will bring works by Koen van den Broek, Jacco Olivier, Muntean/Rosenblum, Hans Op de Beeck, and Anthony Goicolea;
Sorry We’re Closed (Brussels) with among others Anastasia Bay, Eric Croes, Yann Gerstberger and Brian Rochefort; Galerie Elisabeth & Klaus Thoman (Innsbruck, Vienna) showing works by artists such as Herbert Brandl, Carmen Brucic, Axel Jonsson and Michael Kienzer; Galerie RX (Paris, New York) presenting a solo show of Fabrice Hyber; L21 Gallery (Palma) presents “We are still on the road” a project in which different visual languages co-exist around ideas of travel, movement and traces featuring artist such as Vera Mota, Stephen Felton, Ian Waelder and Lydia Gifford.
Art Antwerp also showcases young galleries from Antwerp and up-and-coming artists: Everyday Gallery (Antwerp) brings artworks by Bram Kinsbergen, Daan Gielis, Tom Volkaert, Serban Ionescu, touche––touche, Deborah Bowmann, Raymond Minnen, Erik Chiafele, Dittmar Viane, whose work shares a sense of wonder and bewilderment regarding the world surrounding us; FRED&FERRY (Antwerp) presents artworks by three Belgium-based artists: Leyla Aydoslu, Winnie Claessens, Thé van Bergen; KETELEER GALLERY (Antwerp, Brasschaat, Otegem) will feature artworks by young artists Floris Van Look, Sybren Vanoverberghe, Joëlle Dubois and Valgerður Sigurðardóttir, a first art fair introduction by street muralist ROA and a special presentation of sculptures and paintings by John Kørner; the new gallery Newchild Gallery (Antwerp) will display artworks by Tesfaye Urgessa, Michael Fink, Kristian Touborg, Ella McVeigh, Khushna Sulaman- Butt, Yoo Geun-Taek and Chloë Saï Breil-Dupont; another new upcoming gallery in Antwerp PONTI (Antwerp) -- whose booth has been generously offered by Tim Van Laere Gallery (Antwerp) -- will bring artworks by Daems Van Remoortere, Xander Faes, Jan Laroy, Viktor Mattsson, Jef Meyer, Witold Vandenbroeck, Emma Verhulst.
Art Antwerp gathers also emblematic Antwerp galleries spotlighting young and prominent Antwerp artists. De Zwarte Panter (Antwerp), the oldest contemporary art gallery in Belgium will juxtapose three solo presentations by three Antwerp painters: Fred Bervoets, Nick Andrews and Tom Liekens (Andrews and Liekens were both students of Bervoets); Gallery Sofie Van de Velde & PLUS-ONE Gallery (Antwerp), in line with their collaborative spirit, bring a joint booth with among others, Bendt Eyckermans, Charline Tyberghein, Heidi Ukkonen, Leon Vranken, Ritsart Gobyn, Tatjana Gerhard, Nel Aerts, Victor Verhelst and Kasper De Vos; Tim Van Laere Gallery (Antwerp) presents among others five Antwerp artists: Kati Heck, Ben Sledsens, Dennis Tyfus, Inès Van den Kieboom and Rinus Van de Velde, but also Jonathan Meese, Edward Lipski, and Tal R.
And three Antwerp-based galleries specialised in photography will present their top selection: IBASHO (Antwerp), FIFTY ONE (Antwerp) and Stieglizt19 (Antwerp, Brussels).
Art Antwerp will bring together 12 solo booths, half of which will be presented by Belgian galleries: De Brock Gallery (Knokke) brings a solo show with Beth Letain; IBASHO (Antwerp) showcases Japanese photographer Naohiro Ninomiya; Stems Gallery (Brussels) shows the work of John Fou; Irène Laub (Brussels) proposes a solo show by the Ghent-based painter Stijn Cole; QG Gallery (Knokke) a solo presentation of the work by French artist Bernard Joubert; Galerie Felix Frachon (Brussels) will present the work of young artist Arnaud Rochard.
Galería Alegría (Barcelona) and Sorry We're Closed (Brussels) are showing a solo presentation in their shared booth with the sculptures of German artist Thomas Kiesewetter.

Modesti Perdriolle Gallery (Brussels) will bring a special focus on the contemporary Indian art scene curated by Brigid Uccia and a focus on Joël Denot and Samantha McEwen’s works. Osart Gallery (Milan) presents a project on Contemporary African painting through the works of young women artists of the same generation - all born in the Nineties - that are reshaping the medium’s boundaries in new directions.The booth presentation of Copperfield (London) will consider ocean and river spaces as a historical connector of places, people and identities featuring works by Ada M. Patterson, Oscar Santillán and Jamilah Sabur (who currently has a solo exhibition on display at The Bass Museum in Miami).
