NEW YORK, NY.- Elizabeth Eveillard, Chair of The Frick Collection’s Board of Trustees, announced the election of Rafael Mason to the Board, following its fall meeting.

Comments Eveillard, “We heartily welcome Rafael Mason to the Board at a remarkable time in the life of this institution. Settled into our temporary home, Frick Madison, we are enjoying undertaking projects that amplify new perspectives on the Old Masters as well as robust collaborations that enrich our outreach to the public and peer institutions.” She continues, “Rafael’s career has been grounded in connecting audiences with access to cultural experiences, both in the United States and Europe. We look forward to the vital perspective he will bring to ongoing conversations about the reopening of our renovated buildings, with their revitalized and expanded program spaces.”

Adds Ian Wardropper, Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Director, “Rafael has both a finance and legal background that will serve us well, and his cultural interests are appealingly multifaceted. He has actively fostered projects that expand the reach of the fine and contemporary arts, connecting audiences, artists, and institutions. I look forward to his involvement, particularly at a moment when our Board is strategically expanding as we strive to share the collection in fresh ways and with an ever-broadening public.”

Rafael Mason is currently an Operating Partner at Bain Capital, having previously served as Senior Vice President for Global Premium Products at American Express in New York. In 2021, Mason participated in an AMEX collaboration involving artists Kehinde Wiley and Julie Mehretu, launched in partnership with The Studio Museum in Harlem and its Artists-in-Residence Program. Based with AMEX in Europe for nearly a decade—working in London and Amsterdam—he served as Head of International Premium Products, focusing on marketing and brand development. In this capacity he was instrumental in fostering classical music concerts, a keen interest of his, in Amsterdam and other European capitals. Prior to this, Mason was Vice President for Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs. He earned his bachelor’s at Harvard University, where he was a Mellon/Mentored Scholar, and received a law degree from Yale University, where he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study in France.
