Art That Represents the Pop Culture Landscape of This Generation - Maximalism
Forever Mars Bear by Yee Wong

Maximalism is the new minimalism, and it is here to stay. Maximalists are a new generation of artists and creators that surround themselves with all things over the top. Décor, outfits, lifestyle, and expression are all married together in a presentation that overwhelms the senses. We see Maximalism almost daily in our social feeds, over-the-top fashion posts, and the art and collectibles world.

The definition of Maximalism:

In the art world, Maximalism is a direct reaction against minimalism. Where artists and designers used to value clean and minimalistic aesthetics, Maximalists will adopt the philosophy of "more is more." Maximalism embraces excess and uses bold patterns, colors, and highly creative interests and varieties. Designs and artwork in this style overwhelm the senses with their overt complexity.

The pioneers of Maximalism:

Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana are some of the top brands we see using this trend. We also see the Maximalism style in celebrities like Billie Eilish and Lady Gaga. These brands and pioneers of Maximalism are inviting complexity into their outfits, their homes, and in all the designs they approve through their daily fashions and releases to the public. These brands and individuals are trendsetters, and we are seeing a new generation of creative artists that are inspired by these maximalists in the public eye.

Modern pop culture is changing the way that styles are transmitted. Younger people now see trends in Maximalism through social media and the mass media. This style is being heavily marketed to the younger generation. They are bombarded with images of Maximalism on television, tik tok, Snapchat, and other popular platforms.

With the prominence of this style, we are seeing a new generation of creatives on mass media that choose an aesthetic of Maximalism. The look of minimalism is considered plain and perhaps even dated. We are ushering in a new era with the bold colors, interesting patterns, and fun that Maximalism can bring.

Maximalism vs. Pop art:

Pop art pieces have long been collectible since the 80s. While the Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein aesthetics represent the pop culture of their era , Maximalism is one of the latest trends that represents this generation's pop culture.

One of the artists whose works really represent the pop culture of this generation is Yee Wong. She has also done a beautiful art piece in this Maximalism style. Rather than paying tribute to the pop art of old, Yee Wong has made a Bearbrick that is designed in a revolutionary style and something that is created for a whole new generation of discerning artists. This is a piece that can be considered highly collectible both for the Bearbrick name and for its unique artistic value.

A piece that demonstrates the evolution of Maximalism beyond older pop art styles is the Forever Mars Bear by Yee Wong. This Bearbricks art piece combines a highly detailed collectible with a futuristic maximalism style for this generation. Not only is the Forever Mars Bear coveted amongst expensive Bearbricks for its rarity, but this Yee Wong Bearbrick breaks the stereotypical nature of old-school pop art. The art in this Bearbrick represents this generation's pop culture and maximalist style. It is definitely one of the most creative and rarest Bearbrick.
